On another more fun note, is anyone getting their makeup done at the spa? How did the other EDR brides like their makeup if they used this service?
I scheduled to get my hair and make-up done on my wedding day. I heard that they do a good job if you are able to bring them a picture of how you want your hair and make-up. I'll let you know how it went after I get back! :-)

Yes after several emails to Valeria, and relying conversations I had with the Mexican Consulate to her - that is what she finally told me too - late last week!

I agree, that is unbelievable that Monica is still demanding the $500!!

Also, I decided to have someone come in to do my hair. She is from Playa, and was recommended by another BDW bride: PDCwedding.
I'm going to meet her in Playa for a hair trial, and then she is coming to the resort on the day of. Since there is no way to meet your destination wedding hairdresser beforehand, I just felt more comfortable going on a personal recomendation.

Also, my FI doesn't like alot of makeup - so I'm just going to do my own :)

I bet if they found out you were bringing in an "outside hairdresser" they would try to charge another $500! fryingpan.gif

My sister and I both have hair appts at the spa on the resort-- and I'm planning on going to Sephora and getting them to do my makeup, writing it down in very detailed instructions, and I'll buy what they use; however, I'm determined to tell them up-front that my "makeup budget" is $50-60- so we'll see how that goes!

I'm a bit of a tomboy -so I normally wear just foundation and mascara- so I def need a litttle help!

(My daughter is also bringing a friend who will be doing her hair, and she will also be doing her own makeup.)
you know what is funny? They didn't have a problem with it!! I was originally planning on just going to her on the wedding day, so for the heck of it I told Valeria I wanted her to come to the resort to do my hair, just to see what she said. and no questions asked - I just have to pay the day pass, but only the wedding guest day pass. weird hey?

I'm scheduled to get my hair done at the spa. I'm just going to take a photo & have them do it that way. Far as my make up goes I will do my own. The pressed minerals make up stays on all day & gives you a nice natural look. Plus it has spf 15 in it. You can just use the bronzer and no foundation with this

I have emails from Valeria saying all I have to do for an outside vendor is pay the $500 fee. It is absolutely ridiculous that they are suddenly trying to get more money out of all of us.
I am not paying for the 3 night stay, but I really don't want to have to worry about my photographer not being allowed on property the wedding day. This is really a stress I don't need.
I was also just told I had to pay a 2 night stay along with the $500. I got my TA involved and fought it. They should go by the policy when you are confirmed with your wedding. Not change the quotes as we are doing all our arrangements at the end. I'm paying the $500 and that is it. I would fight it. My TA also got the owner involved and is suppose to talk with the owner of Karisma resorts and the EDR about these ridiculous fees to bring in an outside photographer. What is boils down to is they want us to use their photographer that isn't very good. The owner of TA is well known to the resort and they sent over 1 million dollars in business there. They were also named one of the top TA with Karisma resorts. So hopefully we should get somewhere with this. The owner of Berman travel does not agree with this & says they need to know this when booking other brides wedding destinations there. It is a big factor when planning and expense.

I also received email from Cancun Studios who is doing my phots and told me we can report this to Mexican govt. kinda like our BBB that they are doing unfair charges which limits outside vendors. Anyone interested in the info let me know and I can forward you the email. It may help with some of you that are paying more than the $500 also future brides we can help out.

MrsV-to-be,
Could you send me/post the info for the playa hairdresser?
Thanks,
Jennifer

What's so sad about this whole situation is that when I first started planning my wedding (in January of 2007), there wasn't even a $500 fee, let alone all of these other fees and restrictions - you just had to pay for the wedding day passes for your photographers.......ah, the good ol days.....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
