Oh well.. no sense in harping or regret I suppose.  When I zoom in past the gazebo I love every picture, and I am incredibly happy to be married... that's what counts, right?

My wedding had quite a few major hiccups as well and it still kinda gets to me, though my annoyance about things that went wrong has lessened LOL sad.gif So dont worry, you aren't the only bride that didnt have everything work out fantastically.

I'm trying to figure out excuses to haul my dress back down to EDR for a repeat in November so I can feel like that again. TTD? hmmm

Totally... although traveling with that dress bag was a huge pain in the rear.. but... I was originally planning on trying to sell my dress... but the bottom of my dress was trashed.. pure black almost... so I'm probably not going to be able to sell it... but maybe a TTD next time.. it's not a bad idea... get Sarani to do them, she has awesome TTD pics.. out in the cenotes or in the jungle...very romantic looking.

Most of the black on my hem came off with dry cleaning - so definitely do that before you decide whether or not you can still sell it!! since it'd be a TTD, I think I'd just roll the dress up in a suitcase, and then have them do a quick steam of it at the resort. no reason to stress quite so much about it this time lol

Jill, did everything work OK for your wedding, this was only the day after it?.. hoping all is ok with you during the end of your stay.  I'll be really interested to hear your story when you return.  Be Safe!

The wedding was fantastic! The onsite coordinators were very organized, and the whole day went smoothly. I was really impressed with how attentive, organized, friendly and efficient the team was. We were able to have the ceremony on the beach and the reception at the health bar. I loved my hair and makeup, I LOVED the decorations, and the DJ really made the party. Everyone raved about the food too. I have no complaints about the wedding at all and they whole day was perfect! We had a blast and it was everything I wanted and more.

Then, the day after the wedding, the rain started. There was A LOT of rain and I just felt like the resort wasn't very informative about how to prepare for the bad weather. We stayed in an individual casita with an outdoor shower. The reason our room flooded was because leaves blocked the drain in the outdoor shower and the water poured into the room. We had about two inches of water. If we had a phone call or note telling us to make sure the drain was clear, this would've been avoided.

During the storm (which was heavy rain and crazy thunder and lightening for about 12 hours or more) they didn't deliver room service. Understandable but we had no idea the storm was going to be so bad. A notice or information would've been helpful. We wound up walking to JoJo's and we looked like we had jumped in the pool. We were soaked! We couldn't even really see because they rain was so strong. Not that it would've helped during the evening, but we didn't have an umbrella in our room and it took two days to get one. We needed it to walk around the two days after the big storm. During the earlier party of the evening, a manager stopped by to see our room flooding and said she'd send someone to mop it out. We told her we would do it ourselves if someone brought a squeegee and she insisted someone would come clean it up. Four hours later we called and begged for just a squeege so we could go to bed without the water.

I just feel like the resort was not prepared or informative during the storm. In regards to the wedding, we didn't get many of the perks we were promised. We didn't get a room upgrade (we were offered an upgrade when it because available but it was the day of the wedding and I wasn't about to change rooms that day) our massage was scheduled at the same time as our meeting with the onsite coordinator so after changing the times around we weren't able to enjoy the entire spa (water journey, sauna etc), and we didn't get the dinner on the beach.

Plus with the weather, we didn't get to enjoy the perks of being in the casitas like the beach butler or any activities. I understand the weather can't be helped but I think we could've been compensated more with either other perks or a reimbursement to supplement the ones we didn't get. After complaining a little and basically begging for an umbrella we did get a free massage and we were told we would get an email regarding a free two night stay (which we haven't received yet) and tickets to a cooking demonstration (which was cancelled and we found out when we showed up for it). I enjoyed the resort and the wedding overall but I felt like we didn't get anything extra, or special. There were so many other weddings, and honeymooners it felt like they didn't really care about each couple. We did have a great wedding but after bringing 31 guests, and having the event, we were given the perk of just a free massage and we finally got an umbrella after two days of asking.

The resort could've done a better job informing and preparing guests about the severity of the storm, and a better job compensating for lost perks.

Jill, I feel like you and I had opposite stays... I loved my room and our stay at the resort and didn't have a single hiccup with the resort itself...but the wedding had one thing go wrong after another.

I'm surprised about umbrella, when the rain first started they were handing them out left and right on the casita end of the resort.  You would think it wouldn't have taken so long to get just the umbrella.  As far as cleaning out your room, I'm sure that they had their hands full with cleaning to do... or so I imagine after see that video that was posted.  It's still all very aggravating, having to wait on someone else and not being able to take things into your own hands.  I'd keep on them for the free stay, after all the hassle you deserve at least that... and we can't wait to go back to enjoy things more.  I understand the frustration of not being able to enjoy the casita perks.  When they upgraded us, the very next day was rain and it continued raining... well the rest of the time we were there until we flew out.  I also understand them not being able to upgrade you, we waited all day to find out what they were moving us to as a reimbursement for all our wedding mishaps.  When we called around 1ish Urania told me that all the normal Castias were booked but they were still looking into it.  That was how we ended up in a presidential, it was all that was available.. and I imagine that they can't tell a bride in tears about her wedding that there's nothing they can do, not when a lot of the presidential suites were open.  It did seem like they're were hardly any people in our neighboring suites, but it was raining so I could be wrong.   But, they also made a point of telling me that it wasn't really customary to upgrade to those suites.

I'm really glad to hear your wedding didn't get rained out and that you had such a fun time at your rehearsal.

We used Destination Wedings for our travel agent-related things for our wedding, but I was hoping that some of you ladies could recommend some general travel agents that specialize in trips to Mexico. The hubby and I are trying to put together a group trip next winter cheers.gif

what about Wright Travel? While yes, they do destination weddings, they also do individual travel, and group travel too. After all, a group trip isn't that much different than a destination wedding, just maybe without all the details/stress about the ceremony/dinner/reception. And you can still get fantastic group perks & discounts.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
