I've never heard of a hand-fasting ceremony....what is it?

We aren't religious either and aren't doing a sand ceremony.

I like the sand ceremony too, but I'm a bit afraid that the sand will just get shook up on the way home.   Any other good ceremony ideas out there?

these are the pictures that are my inspiration for using the bubbles... and a lot of them...

another cute idea I saw that I like was this confetti arbor... you hang a fabric horizontally over your altar, cover it with confetti and when you kiss someone pulls a string allowing the confetti to fall over you.   ... then later confetti or petals that the guests can toss.

Thanks for all the support ladies. I guess I am just extra sensitive with so many life changing events happening to me this year. Oh and maybe a bit of an emotional disaster, but hey at least the planning and reading is keeping me busy and focused and not dwelling on what is to come.

Have I mentioned my baby turns 18 on the 23rd and will graduate from high school in June. I will really have an empty nest come August. Happy, but sad too.

Anyway I appreciate the support and glad to know I'm not alone. The point I made to my friend was exactly what you all said. This is about me and Chuck. If she attends we are happy she was able to be there. If she doesn't attend we understand but will continue with our good time.

I do want to ask for another opinion. I'm sure most of you have seen my invitation. Since it has the starfish, do you think it is tacky to cover it with a piece of bubble wrap prior to mailing? I bought some but now I'm not sure. It may or may not work, but I thought that might save some of them. What do you think?

bubble wrap away!! I've seen many protective covers or sheets sent with wedding invites.

My FI's aunt and uncle said they couldn't go because they already planned a trip to Chile in 2013... utter crap because we've been engaged for two years-and she was at the engagement party when we said we'd be doing a destination wedding.  Another friend said that she's decided that she'd rather take a trip to Ireland on her own this summer... then not even a half second later said she wasn't sure if she'd be able to afford going to Mexico in May... I feel like we all have friends with those kinds of "concerns".... But, the day isn't about them... and the day being about you is something to be very happy about.  ... that being said... remind me of this in March when all of my room payments are due and I'm angry at the people who back out... or when I'm disappointed that I don't have the numbers I wanted.

That being said... those of you who have been through this and had people you cared about back out of attending... When it came down to it.. on the day did you care if those people weren't there?... I've got to think that things will be so crazy and exciting that you won't be able to think of anything but the moment.  Or at least... that's what I keep telling myself.

We are getting married Feb 15, 2013... A supposed best friend of my FI (I say supposed BF b/c this is what she did for his 30th bday too) backed out the day before the final payment was due. She was the first person to put a deposit down and knew we were getting married in Mexico since Nov. 2011. I felt bad for my FI b/c I know she gave a lot of BS excuses and kind of showed how if it is not about her it doesn't matter (b/c in her next breath she asked if he would spend $1600 to come celebrate her 30th with her a month before our wedding). Anyway with her backing out lost us a free room which then screwed up our wedding budget. So for a couple days maybe a week I was pissed b/c I had to give up a couple extras that would not really matter in the end, but in the moment it felt like it did matter. Now it has been a couple weeks since all that happen and I started eating Ramon to afford those extras Just kidding. I got over the stuff that was not really needed and focused that the people that are going to be there are the ones that truly care and made the effort to save for it. And in the end it is not about who is at the wedding (we all know that is the sacrifice you make and this will happen when you choose to do a DW) or what add ons you did or didn't have... It is about you and your FI only!

I like the first, just because I think it looks a little cleaner.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
