El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

This is a beautiful and very class dress.  It looks like it will be light weight too.  You might want to make sure you have a good slip, so the charmeuse doesn't stick to you when you walk.  With the humidity that could be a real issue.  My dress was nothing like I thought I'd want... it has ruffles, and usually I detest ruffles.  But, I hear that's pretty normal.. do get a dress completely unlike what you were expecting.   Do you know when you'll get to have your dress in?  I was so excited when mine came in the mail.

My consultant pulled a dress I would've never picked for myself, but that I love. It's very timeless, kind of old hollywood glam. It looks a lot better on me than on this model, as I fill it out better with an hourglass shape. I don't think the picture does it justice, the beaded straps are beautiful.

I know this may seem like added stress and a bit on the cheap side, but has anyone tried to just avoid the "set up" fee for decor and just have friend/family put the stuff on the table as soon as the reception starts, but slightly before everyone(including wedding party) gets there? When I got married in Dec2010 they let my MC put out the favors, guest book, candles and flowers with no fee so I feel so bad that they are trying to charge you girls.thatswck.gif My MC wasn't even allowed to go put the stuff out until 20mins before the reception started so the resort had a chance to set up the table and tables cloths. which made me think, if one of your guests just headed over 15 minutes early to set out your table decor, would the WC even notice or charge you?? Hmmm...just a thoughthuh.gif

I am interested in hearing how much yours ends up being Allie, please let us know. Who is your WD?

We had the same idea! Symbolic ceremony saved us a huge paperwork headache and we got to write our own ceremony and have my mom "marry" us, which was extra special! Also, we stayed on Royale side for week 1 with our guests then switched to Casitas side for our week 2 honeymoon which was perfect. My only regret...not asking beforehand how the room switch would go, and then ending up wasting an entire day in Mexico waiting for the front desks from Casitas and Royale to figure it all out while sweating in a golf cart full of all of our stuff for 2 hours then getting the wrong room once we got to the Casitas(they tried putting us in a  2nd floor room while hubby was on crutches for a torn knee ligaments). Ugh, a mess, but totally worth it once we got settled into our suite with our own pool just steps from our bed, breakfast on our deck every morning and our bartender memorizing our drink order so we had fresh drinks at all times in our hands!!!! I miss EDR rolleyes.gif

We haven't ordered invites yet, but our save the dates will be here next week and we'll probably send out the actual invitations in February. We've only been engaged a few weeks, so we're planning the whole thing in about 7 months. Are you bringing your own decor in? I think I convinced my fiance that it's worth it to spring for the private reception. After all, you only (hopefully!) are getting married once. So are you going with the cheapest package after the free, the $950?

We are also going to go with the symbolic ceremony, and get legally married here before we leave. I couldn't justify the cost and extra time it requires, plus I hate needles!

Does anyone know if you can build your own custom package? Like not pick the free or $950 one, but just pick the things you want from the Lomas website and do it that way? I thought if so that way we wouldn't need a week at the casita, but we may still be able to custom build what we want and still come in under the $950 package.

Hope you all have a good weekend! I'm in Chicago, and it's finally starting to get cold....

I have actually been looking at those, I'd rather have something to show for my money rather than throwing $250 to the resort just to rent for a couple of hours. Thanks for the suggestion.

So Valeria finally messaged me back about set up fee's...These are her exact words...

The set up fee to display christmas lights on each pole at Tucanes bar is of 25 usd (per pole)
You will need to bring 12 -15 ft long christmas stringing lights per pole Plus 6ft to 8ft long electrical extension cord to plug the lights, this is per pole.

This makes it near impossible to bring your own...I would have to take a whole suite case dedicated to Christmas Lights and extension cords!!

The set up fee to hang 10 medium size (can you confirm the exact size of each pom pom?) is of 75 usd.
Note that as mentioned before, the pompons can only be hanged from the edges of the ceiling as there are fans on the ceiling that will tangle the nylon string in which this will be hanged and can cause an accident.

$75 to hang 10 pom pom's that cost me less than $20

This is so ridiculous, it makes me want to scream!! I'm scared to ask about anything else.

I have a few small things that I would like to have on the tables that cost me less than $40 that I'm considering having a good friend sneak over ahead of time and put out because I refuse to pay $5 per person for something that doesn't apply per person. I wish they weren't so greedy!!!

we've heard they've really cracked down on friends/family doing any set up. But if they try to charge me above and beyond the $150 for the lanterns, I will have my friends do this...I'm paying EDR enough money!

OK.... I had this convo too... Valeria is in Purple, I'm in Green.

The price to set up your own christmas lights on 6 poles of the Tucanes bar is of 150 usd.

The size of each of the poles is of 9 ft long approximately and the diameter is of 12 inches approximately.

The on site coordinator advises the Tucanes bar will look  even better with 8 illuminated poles instead of 6.

The set up fee will be of 175 usd for 8 poles wrapped if you bring your own christmas lights.

Ok… Any chance he knows how long of a string of lights heâ€d recommend? And someone mentioned to me that I should ask about the extension cords or whatever to plug in these lights (regardless of if I bring my own or use yours)… Iâ€m assuming they are very tastefully placed and wouldnâ€t need to worry about any eye sores due to rigging the electrical supply?

The size of each string of lights is of 6 ft long, they look similar to he photos attached;

We use 1 string of lights and we wrap up the poles in it.

If you bring your own lights  we do not provide extension cords, you will need to bring them with you please. The size of each string of lights is of 6 ft long, they look similar to he photos attached; (She put up a photo of a strand of icicle lights) We use 1 string of lights and we wrap up the poles in it.

               --------------------

So basically, I'm planning to bring 8 strands of 6' icicle lights, and 8 6' white extension cords. I'm planning to buy them after chrismas so I can get them on sale (and I think I even have a few at home I used on the outside of my house). They come in little boxes, so it shoudln't be too bad. If it seems like too much work, then I'll just rent theirs.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
