El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

I know that another person had said their candles all kept blowing out.   Did anyone else who has been there before have success with using real candles, vs. the LED kind?  I really wanted to use real candles, but I thought for sure they wouldn't stay lit.  What did your candle holders look like?  Did you have your votives in any kind of hurricane?

We had votive candles at our rehearsal dinner at Tucanes and they held up fine. I dont recall any blowing out and it was nice to  have a little extra light since the ceilings are so tall, thus their light fixtures are pretty far away.

Martini bar is nice for a cocktail hour since it is in the a/c but it is located at the main lobby, so depending on where your wedding is, it might be a hike. Also, if you choose here, make sure the resort is aware of how many people you expect so they can adequately staff the bar. My cousin ended up  having her cocktail hour at Guacamayas because it was her rain location. It si the main bar for nightly entertainment so depending on how late your cocktail hour would be, it might be crowded. That being said, no one was at Guacamayas at my cousins cocktail hour and the space seemed really large adn empty with only the wedding group, and she had 55 people.

If it were me, I would opt for the Martini Bar. It's elegant, cool (temperature wise and decor wise) and a good size to host cocktail hour.

Mmmm chocolate martini - I want one of those! lol no, I wasn't planning to do any food at cocktail hour. I figured the dinner would be more than enough, and it starts at 6pm, so fairly early.

is it ok if I'm dreading the humidity?? that's one reason I wanted Cabo vs. RM, but RM is closer for most of our guests.

I dont think Guacamayas would be busy then, but you would be surprised with the humidity feels like even in November. My cousins wedding was late September and we were all quite toasty.

Below is a picture of our centerpieces at Toucanes. We didnt have any issues with the candles blowing out as Toucanes is set quit a bit back from the beach.

LOL We had our reception indoors and for some reason the tallest candle of every centerpiece went out early in the reception and then would not relight. Dunno what was up with that!

The humidity was bad, but I am used to humid and have thus learned how to tame my hair fairly decently when its humid out LOL so I didnt think that it was so terrible. The breeze on the beach takes away a lot of the added heat from the humidity, so dont stress too much over it!

My mom kept trying to re-light them and eventually just gave up. lol. If you're very anal about the candles staying lit, I wouldn't risk it, because it just depends on the day. Some days were definitely more windy then others. But if it doesn't bother you if a few blow out, id go for it!

Is your table set up the "standard" one? I noticed the gold chargers, and was curious. Did you bring the centerpieces with you, or did EDR supply them? How did the votive candles hold up in Tucanes?

do you have any pics of the beach bar? either Guacamayas or the Martini bar were recommended for us for the cocktail hour, and I wasn't sure what to recommend.

Sorry for the questions!!!!!

Here are some photos I have from Beach Bar from different angles. Hope this helps

For the table we ordered the full length "tan" colored linens. They were either $30 or $50 per table (I can't remember which). I wasn't expecting them to be shiny, but I ended up liking them a lot. I can send you the pic Valeria sent to me of them when I chose them if you want. The chargers I brought from home because the cost to rent a charger through Lomas was ridiculous. They were from Bed, Bath and Beyond and were $2.99 each. The centerpieces were through Lomas and were red carnations and roses. I brought those gold votive holders from home with battery operated tea light candles. We also used/rented three votives per table from Lomas with the actual candles in them and they held up fine. It wasn't windy or breezy really when we were there.

I do have pics of the beach bar, let me find them and I'll send :) The Guacamayas bar is where everyone will be every night for the entertainment. It's a large area that's fairly informal. I don't  have any pics of that area or I'd send. It's set back a little, so it's not right on the beach, but it's close. The Beach bar is right on the beach. There's swings at the back of it and tables from JoJo's restaurant that your guests can use while they wait for the reception. I would definitely recommend the Beach Bar. Our group loved it and it's in a great location. The Martini Bar is very pretty and elegant inside (and it's inside so there's air conditioning), but it's in the lobby, so it's fairly far from most of the ceremony sites (I'm not sure where your locations are?). It's not far from Tucanes though, so that's good. It's just a different style from the Beach Bar and Guacamayas Bar. Here's what I'd say - if you are looking for privacy for the group, the Guacamayas Bar is the best. It's sort of set back in it's Palapa so I don't think too many people head there until later in the evening. The Beach Bar will be less private, but beautiful and a really fun atmosphere if your group likes to party. The Martini Bar is more elegant. Hopefully that helps you choose :)

I'm happy to answer any questions!! Let me know if you have more!! I'll try to find the Beach Bar pics and send soon.

Allie H - on that fourth pic down you'll see outside tables from JoJo's bar that your guests can sit in. The beach is just beyond that, so it's really a pretty setting :)

We got them from Mishka Designs: http://mishkadesignspv.blogspot.com/p/maraca-designs.html  You can have any color and design you want! There are way more colors and examples if you search around her site. Or, if you do a Google image search for "wedding maracas" you can see more examples. She's great to work with (she's actually a wedding planner and designer). I wish she lived closer to Cancun or we would have hired her to design our wedding. Her designs are amazing.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
