We are having a cocktail party on the beach in between the ceremony and reception and having a friend dump some blue-colored glass beads in the middle of the standing cocktail tables. We didnt want to spend the additional money on more decorations when the scenery will be gorgeous enough!

I did see on a previous post in this thread that the resort provided tiki torches to light the walkway from the main path to the bar, free of charge. I believe they did this for my cousin as well, so perhaps they throw that in if the torches arent being used elsewhere?

Hey ladies,

Wow - so there are a lot of us getting married soon!! Yay!! I can't wait to hear the reviews and see all of the pictures :) It sounds like the first is 'Stina9562' on April 20, then 'TheWolferts' on May 12, then 'Alison04' on May 30, myself on June 30, and 'AllieH' on November 5. Is there anyone I missed?

I'm also getting married this year at the El Dorado on May 30th....I choose to opt for the destination wedding as one here was going to cost me an arm and a leg. I'm starting to seriously stress about all the little details as it's so hard when you have never seen the property. I choose to get married at the Fuentes Gazebo because I loved the all greenery, but I don't hear many brides that choose that ceremony location...any comments as my second choice was Gazebo 55...To follow my recption will be at the Tucanes and I'm going for the Deluxe BBQ....I emailed my wedding coordinator Natalia as I was nervous about the size, because my guest list has some how creeped up to over 50 guests...she told me it was ok as it was just recemtly renovated to a bigger palapa and can hold 60 guests. Has anybody seen or used this location as I'm nervous about size...If anyone has any comments to help me with suggestions or pointers that would be amazing!!! :)

Hi!

No worries! I liked Fuentes Gazebo as well as Gazebo 55. Both are beautiful locations...so we actually choose to have our beach Mexican cocktail party there. We were married at 55  then while we did pictures our guests were directed to that location were the cocktail party.'I liked it because it was very private with all the greenery, there is a beach wall that our guests did pictures at and they were surprised when the donkey showed up! We used our IPod speaker for music and it worked perfectly for the location.

Both locations are great!

Tucanes is very nice as well! Private, big space, beautiful pool! I would suggest some floating LED lights for the pool if it is at night! It is also a centrally located spot which is nice to for guests who need to run back to their rooms ;) definety have a few tiki touches &/or  luminaire bags. I asked the WC for her recommendation for how many and set-up.

Our Guests raved about the BBQ!!! It was wonderful!! Great choice! We opted to save $$$ and did not have a cake but just enjoyed all the mini deserts,

another fun tip: I purchased glow necklaces & bracelets for the party! Fun! Everyone loved the idea, including the wait & bar staff! We tipped em $100.00 and they joined in the fun and kept the cocktails flowing! :)

Hey,

Thanks for all the tips ladies...very helpful!!! I was pretty calm but until this point but now I'm getting pretty stressed with all the details. I'm thinking I'm going to go with the plain white shears for the ceremony and my colours will be bright pink, white and green for the flowers. I'm thinking about the bridesmaids going with pink....has anyone looked into the chair covers and the cost, I was going to skip them to save money but I'm not sure at this point now.

Angi, can I get the floating candles through Lomas??? As I think the only ones I saw on the website were like $100 each and I'm guessing I would need alot. Any other tips for decorating the Tucanes would be helpful as I have no idea what it really looks like, lol.T

This forum is making me feel a little better as we are all in the same boat :)

We are all so very close! I like the floating Candle idea, I liked how they wrapped the lighting around the poles at the Tucanes but ir seemed to pricey as well. Everyone seems to be going with the BBQ I might need to look into that. I don't have as many guests though, I don't think.

Just curious, where is everyone from? I am from Fort Worth, TX.

Alison04-

We opted to not cover the ceremony beach chairs because we liked the beachy look of the white wooden chairs, and didnt want to spend the money on covering the chairs for a 20 minute long ceremony.

We are having our rehearsal dinner at Tucanes and are having colored paper lanterns hung at different heights attached to the palapas roof. My WC said we would need about 25 lanterns and the resort charges a hanging fee of $100. At first, I was annoyed there was such a steep fee to hang the lanterns, but she made the point that the ceiling/roof is quite high and that for safety reasons, we were not permitted to hang them ourselves, which definitely makes sense to me.

We were thinking of floating candles as well, but I was going to look online for some because I thought that the candles offered by Lomas were expensive and sorta ugly, as they are not free floating, they are strung in lines across the pool i.e. they look like swim lane markers!

Tucanes is surrounded by beautiful landscaping so you probably wont need that much additional decor!

Stina9562-

I have heard the BBQ is quite tasty and a big hit with guests, but we are opting for the sit down Filet Mignon with lobster and the Mahi Mahi. My cousin had the same entres at her wedding and they are to die for!

We are in Washington, DC.

I am from Carpinteria, CA which is 10 min. south of Santa Barbara. I also (like TheWolferts) went with the Lobster and Filet as one option for our guests and the Mahi Mahi as the second option. I was a little nervous about offering so much seafood, however I've heard really good things about both dishes, so I went with it :)

Oh and we aren't going to cover our chairs either. I really, really like the chiavari chairs, but my fiance was like we are not spending $12 to rent a chair with 60 guests... I guess I agree. While we are on the topic, I asked a while back about pricing on plate chargers. I was told they were $12 (or maybe it was $13) per charger! That's to rent them! I couldn't believe it. If you go online you can find the exact same one's to purchase for $2. I just thought that price mark-up was hilarious...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
