Worried about May wedding. Ease my mind please!

Recommended Posts

We just booked out date:) May 21, 2011 at Riu Negril! I am very worried about the weather in May.. Have anyone been married/visited Jamaica in May? I know its getting pretty close to Hurricaine season, and can be VERY warm/rainy. Let me know what you think. We chose May because i fiance and I are both finishing up school and May is the start of our summer break. and we dont want to wait 2 years. Let me know what you all think THANKS

I am getting married the beginning of May next year and I think that it rains every day but only for a short period of time so you should be fine. I figure that people are still getting married there in June and July, during actual hurricane season, so we should be fine...happy thoughts!

I know exactly how you feel. I've been all over the web, talking to my WP and Jamaican friends about the weather - when's the best time to go? when's it least likely to rain? I've even gone as far as to look through old threads trying to find JA brides who married during my month to see if it rained on their wedding day!

My Jamaican friends have all told me that I'll worry myself to death if I try to predict the island's weather. The reality is that the chances of rain ANY time of the year (other than pure hurricane season) are no different than they would be here in the States - we can't predict it or control it. And coming to that realization is the only thing that eased my inclination to worry. All that to say, though it's easier said than done, "don't worry."

Some cultures see rain on your wedding day as a blessing. Put out good energy and intentions and no matter the weather, your wedding day will be magical!!

I was also a little nervous about this myself. My wedding is also on May 21, 2011 in Riu Ocho rios. I went all over the web searching for the weather and it says that in may it rains but my wedding planner told me that it doesnt rain that much in may so im confused and nervous myself.

Is the wind normal?? Ha, now i am worried about wind! :) I am planning on having a beach ceremony and reception but dont want wind to be a problem! Ha ha, we are going to drive ourselves crazy!!!

Weather is the last thing to really be worried about. You have no control over it and you can go during the best time of year have it rain on your wedding day. There is NO WHERE in this world you can go without the risk of less-than-ideal weather for your wedding day and you'll drive yourself nuts over it. I say, relax, plan for what you can control and deal with the weather when you get there.

Yeah, no control over the weather at all. I dont think it makes much of a diff in may or jan or whenever....the rainy season officiallys tarts in may-but it run til like dec...soooooo

Anywho, I was worried to death.....it was VERY WINDY........EVERYDAY...I MEAN, EVERYDAY! The wind would pick up around 10 or 11am...and not die down til about 5 or 6...then complete stop at night.....then start up again the next morning.........we had sun every day except one morning I woke at 6am to a thunderstorm-and it passed within an hour or so........it sprinkled rain one day int he pool for about 5 mins......and then, low and behold-it raind right int ime for our ceremony! lol....As dad was walking me down it clouded over and went black........it was beautiful right up until 30 mins before-you could see the rain coming.......but everyone is right-it vanishes in no time, and this was a sprinkle,e enough that everyone welcomed it and cooled us off. It made it that much more romantic and our WC was there the whole time int he event we had to run inside she had it alll under control, so dont worry-we actually included, "i can see clearly now the rain has gone" on our wedding video..it fit perfectly-the rain was finsihed up by the end of the ceremony....and we laughed about it-rain on your wedding day means good luck!

Oh-one more thing...bout the wind...think about your hair! We were sooo lucky that the wind died down around 4 that day (the one and only day while we were there).....but i wore my hair up and it didnt budge...I saw lots of brides with their hair down....and by tht evening for the meal it looked all wind blown........thats fine if you re not worried about your hair, but I was...and also-I LOVED HAVING that hair off my neck......I was cool .....Id never handle my hair on my back and neck.........

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
