Target's Registry Return Policy

Recommended Posts

I love Target, but I must admitt, their return policy is a bit strict. I'm sure you can return for store credit (never did it though), but if you exchange, it has to be from the same dept and you have to have a reciept, if no receipt, you can show them your registry where the item is listed. But I don't know info other than that.

I was recommended by some married friends (who both registered at Target) to NOT register at target! Actually, they said it would be OK to ONLY register for things you absolutely do not want to return. If someone gives you a gift from Target but don't give you a gift recepit, you cannot return it for store credit - you do what Jessica said. you can exchange it for something that is the ExACT same price in the same dept.

My friends told me to register at Bed Bath & Beyond - easy return policy & you can even return for cash!

Here's a review I found about registering online at Target (via epinions):

Where to start!

I was registered with Target.com for my wedding. I had several out of town family members purchase gifts online and have them delivered. The first one I received was the complete incorrect item (wasn't even on my registry). I took it to Target (store) they wouldn't return/exchange it for anything! Then in order to return it to Target.com, I had to pay shipping myself!

The next deliver again, was incorrect. I received 2 of the same gift, instead of one of each gift. Same problem occurred dealing with both Target (store) and Target.com. After numerous phone calls, legal threats, etc. The situation was finally resolved 8 MONTHS LATER! Not to mention a month after our wedding, our registry was removed from the internet making it impossible for "late-gifters" to pull up our registry from their own home.

Since this all happened, I have advised EVERYONE I know from using any of Targets registries, or ordering from them online. Even their in-store return policy has gotten ridiculous. I wanted to make an EVEN EXCHANGE on a Christmas gift (just wanted a different color). They told me that they would have to track that to my driver's license number. I told them absolutely NOT, that's absurd!

yes, target is the worst unless you are never going to return anything. my cousin registered there and crate & barrel last year and we had a horrible experience at target trying to return or exchange a gift she got 2x. also - if you don't have a receipt, they take your license and you can only have 2 returns per year per person. CRAZY!

Damn, Matt and I just registered there on Sunday. I hope it works out fine, cuz I ain't worrying about it.

We also previously registered at Bed, Bath & Beyond and they were great, we found just about everything there and their return policy is awesome. No receipts, cuz they can jsut look up your registry and you can return it for cash. My FI also told me that if someone buys you a gift with a coupon, you get the difference of the money they saved, but I never heard that and haven't had a chance to research that yet....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
