Thats the best thing about getting married abroad you can go out of wedding season here in the UK and then get a great price on the AHR venue - our hire charge was only £450 but June - September its in the region of £950!!!!

This is our venue - we are not having a full sit down meal just nibbles (though I have noticed people like to call them canapes these days - lol) - but loads of booze xx showpic.jpgHop Farm Interior 2.jpgHop Farm Exterior.jpg

Thanks Nicy and thanks for asking about the job - yesterday was a bit strange as being the 'new girl' you just have to sit and watch but today i got a bit more involved and everyone seems really nice - its a nice relaxed company and feel quite settled already so am hoping it will work our well.

In my new job we deal with couriers all over the world and they sent a notice today to say they cant deliver to Mexico at the moment due to the hurricane - I know its hurricane season but I hope it didnt affect Louises day..... x

What a gorgeous place for your ahr josie, that is something i´ve not even looked into yet! Going  to have one in sheffield and one in spain, but going to have to wait a couple of months to save up some pennies after mexico! Probably going to wait til summer next year for the spain one, that way we can have an outside party hopefully bbq, swimming pool, foam pit, bouncy castle for the kids, just a big piss up in bikinis really...... like i said we need to save up!

glad your new job is going well so far, must be wierd being the new girl.

Hi Charmaine

Wedding plans are slow so far but i have chosen my bridesmaids dresses and my own dress and paid my deposit :-) looking at my accessories and a dress for the evening to change into and bookmarking and choosing other bits and bobs like ring cushions, favours etc not buying much really until i have finally booked and it feels real :-)

I carnt book until around September/October this year, for November 2011.

We have decided to book the wedding direct with first choice although it was a bit more expensive than booking direct with the hotel, the reason i chose this was because we have had some messing about being passed from one coordinator to another at the hotel and i feel it gets a bit confusing and also the added assurance if anything goes wrong either end we have someone we can go back to or if there is any type of "Ash Cloud" etc we will be covered to get the money back from First Choice for the wedding where as if we book direct we won't get anything back!

We sat and went through the packages and decided to go with the Luxury package and just upgrade particular things like the photography and buy extra bouquets etc for the bridesmaids, we totalled everything up that we wanted using a cheaper package and it came out more expensive. Our final package choice will be dependant on how many people join us because i really want the private reception but i think there needs to be a minimum of 20 people.

What plans have you made so far? Its a bit of a struggle when you feel so far away from it doesn't it?

Hi Vicki, we were also looking at the Luxury Package it seems to include most things we would like.  I agree with booking everything through First Choice for assurance, i know that when i spoke with them they said that they know of some hotels that have cancelled weddings due to double booking and the brides didn't know anything until they turned up.  First Choice said that they wouldn't be able to do this if we book through them because they have to sign a contract with First Choice.

When i was speaking to the WC at The Gran Caribe she told me that you need to have a minimum of 30 people to have a private reception, but i'm sure they can be flexible.

I haven't managed to book anything because I can't until the prices come out with First Choice next year May, but I know my colours (aqua and white) and so I am currently looking for bridesmaid dresses, i've seen a couple of nice styles so I just need to make sure my BM like them.  I've got a contact of lady that has been making wedding/BM dresses, grooms/ushers suits etc for the last 30 years, she is apparantly very good, reasonably priced and highly recommended and since my BM sizes range from size 6 - 20, it will be difficult to find a dress in a shop that will fit all so i will be getting them made.

Other than that i've been getting loads of ideas from the ladies on here and i'm just enjoying the planning stage, although I am getting extremly impatient and just want to book the wedding so it feels more real.x

My AHR is the only thing that I am able to get excited about at the moment, one of my BM is the manager of a Golf Club and she has said that as her present to us we can have the venue for free for our AHR with hot/cold buffet provided for free too.  The venue is beautiful and she has saved us a small fortune.  We have penciled in a date which will be confirmed once I have booked the wedding.

From what I have read on the internet i don't think that the hurricane has hit that part of Mexico, hopefully Louise is having a wonderful wedding, can't wait to see her pictures. x

Oooooo, Hopefully the hurricane came after the wedding, would be crap to be there in the hurricane but as long as the wedding was ok :-) x

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
