Hi ladies

Haven't been on for a while, I feel kind of lost at the moment, we still haven't decided on a hotel and because I can't book anything until March I don't feel like i'm getting married at the moment.  I am really struggling with choosing a hotel, every one I choose has good and bad points about it and i'm finding it difficult to decide.  I'm trying to find a hotel that suits the people that may be coming but still something that we want.  I can't just choose what we want because what we want would cost everybody else an absolute fortune 'Cancun Palace', and i've at least decided that my family being there is more important than a plush hotel as long as the hotel is beautiful and I get married with my loved ones there that's all I want.  On top of that the prices have increased alot because of the air tax (approx £300 per person based on July 2011 prices) and people that I thought would definitley come are now saying that they don't think they can make it.

I was talking to my cousin yesterday who is like my sister and i couldn't imagine getting married without her there but she has 3 kids (they'll be aged 15, 10, and 1) and it's going to cost her about £5500 to get out to Mexico.  Although I'm telling her that I dont expect her to pay that and I completely understand if she couldn't come because she can spend £5k on a million other things that are more important than my wedding, she knows that my wedding wouldn't be the same without her there and vice versa, so she is feeling the pressure to come...i feel awful, because both her and her sister (who is also like my sister) are not made of money and will find it so hard to come.

People have asked me to consider doing it in Cyprus or even over here, but OH and me if i'm honest have got our hearts set on Mexico (if we ever choose a hotel)...I just feel so confused and very guilty that family feel under pressure, becasue they couldn't imagine missing my wedding so will find anyway possible to get there.

I just feel really really low at the moment.

Aww Charmaine i really feel for you. We ummed and arrrr'd over our hotel for months it is definately the hardest part i think. You do want a lovely hotel and somewhere that will suit everyone coming. But most of the hotels out there are gorgeous and i'm sure you can find one to suit all without braking the bank. I know our 2 weeks in Mexico is £5500 and two of my BM's have children and are coming and it's costing them £5169 to come. We felt so guilty but know they wouldn't do it if they couldn't. If your heart is set on Mexico then i think you should just keep looking. You have time to play with if you can't book until March. We booked with Caribbean Warehouse and they were so good. Maybe ring them and ask them to keep an eye out for you?

Chin up chick it will all work itself out and March is not that far away. Xmas is nearly here :o) xx

Good idea about having a photographer at the party, not gonna have it at home tho (couldn't take the mess lol) we have booked a hotel locally and they have said we can have the room from 4pm at no charge but my FI thinks it is too early but I like the idea of having it longer as it might feel more weddingly???? What do you think????

Charmaine, I also know how you feel. When I book ours, my cousin (sister I never had) i had invited them but i never thought that they could afford it (her & husband & three girls 22,21,17)  for them it was going to cost £7500. I had considered else where, but mexico was our first holiday together so seemed right to get married there. Any way they booked a week later and sent me a text 'guess whos going to mexico', first i thought that it was only my cousin and her husband but when i called her it was all of them i just burst into tears it made my day. I had always planned to have the girls as my bridesmaids, so was very happy that they were coming.

As to the expense, mexcio is very expensive. We are staying at the Sensatori Resort and it was £1500 for a week and £1900 for two weeks. We paid for my parents and OH's dad to come for a week, and if they wanted to stay for the two weeks then they paid the extra. OH's mum decided that she couldn't afford it so she's not coming at all (even though she had nothing to pay!!!). Our bill came out as £12,000 including our wedding package

Chin up and all will work out in the end  :-)

Hi Charmaine

Sorry to hear your dilemma it is such a hard decision to make but at the end it should be whats most important to you and your H2B and what you want.

As you know we originally were planning for a Mexico wedding but after many conversations we made a decision to marry in Cyprus and since making this decision we have been so much happier as the people who we want there are able to come because its not as expensive and most importantly to us it feels more acheiveable with regards cost and i now actually feel like i am getting married as quite a lot of it is now paid for so we can now breath a sigh of relief.

To begin with my heart was totally set on Mexico and when we made the decision to change destination i was a bit gutted and upset but all round i new it was best and now i am really excited and looking forward to my Cyprus wedding and feel i have made the right decision and i absolutley love the place we are getting married and i dont regret it.

Go with what you and your H2B want, its your special day.

samcalv1 - totally agree as we looked at Cyprus and it was really expensive  - only about £200 less than Mexico and we had already been to Mexico so knew what to expect.

I think what you are going through Charmaine is the hard part of a DW - but you are never going to please everyone whatever your final decision.  As harsh as it sounds if your heart is set on Mexico then I think you should do it; BUT you may have to compromise on the hotel if it is out of reach of the rest of your guests.  Really hope you are able to come to a decision. x

This time next week i will be on my hen do - suddenly I'm getting married - woo hoo!!

FI finally got this suit ordered today after our trip down Oxford St which was a complete mare - tourists just stopping and taking pics of the Christmas light - arrrggghhhh - FI was so moody - lol!  What a nightmare trying to get a summer suit in November - finally we ordered it and I have attached a picture - he will have a white shirt and a turquoise tie and brown leather flip flops - I so hope it fits when it arrives as I cannot bear having to go shopping with him again!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
