She was okay about not being a bridesmaid, but i'm now worrying about the AHR as I dont want her to feel left out (photos etc her not having a dress). As if i had got married here she would have been one of my bridesmaid. Do I get her a dress to wear for the AHR or not? Advice needed?

Im not sure what i would do in this situation.... As Michelle mentioned, depends how close you are really!! I can see your dilema though.... I think maybe i would sway to getting her a dress for over here at your AHR.... :-) x

I am getting mixed messages on what they test for exactly, I originally thought they tested for HIV and Syphilis and if either of you tested positive you can't get married legally.  Now I am hearing that they test for ALL STD's and if either of you have anything wrong you can't get married legally....this seems a bit extreme to me as people can have things like Chlamydia or Ghonnerea (sorry to get all icky on you) and never know because they don't have any symptoms or signs and then get to Mexico and be told they can't get married...I understand the HIV and Syphilis thing but don't understand the all STD thing.  I mean how is it affecting them if you do have a 'curable' STD.

The obvious thing is to get checked out here before hand, which i'll do for peace of mind, but i've also heard of horror stories where they've got the results wrong...i.e.couples have got tested in Mexico and the results have come back as positive so they haven't been allowed to get married and then when they've got back to England to be tested the results have been wrong.

Can anybody clarify for me exactly what they do test for and is it from a reliable source because different hotel websites say different things and i'm confused.com....i don't want to get to Mexico and find out we can't get married (not that i think there is anything wrong with either of us) it is just another thing to stress about though!!!

This is one thing we were really confused and worried about to start with. Originaly we ALWAYS said we'd get married in Mexico, but when we started looking into it the test frightened us a wee bit, like you after reading all the "horror" stories, so we started to look at other countires, Jamaica, Aruba, etc but we were never happy and always ended up looking at and talking about Mexico, so we looked into this a wee bit more and just thought sod it, we wana get married in Mexico....

anyway this extract is directly of the RIU website (where were marrying)

Do I need to take a blood test and, if so, what diseases do you test for?
Yes, but only if you are planning to get married in Mexico.

Tests of HIV and syphilis, Gonorrea, Herpes and all the STD's are required and must be perform by a certified doctor. Your on-site wedding coordinator will arrange the doctor's appointment in your hotel room. You can not take the blood test in your country and bring the results to the Resort. The cost of the blood test is included in the wedding package price.

*Please be aware that if any of the results turned positive, you will not be able to get legally married.

I MUST ADD:

It will be worth checking with your own hotel/WC if the blood test is carried out in your hotel/room and if the blood test is/isnt inc in your package as i know these can differ hotel to hotel, I spoke to a girl on here after her wedding and she said it litrally takes the doc 2 mins. and results can be back same day but is usualy the next day.

I was worried we would have to find our way to some back street hospital or something and that scared me the most.

Im sure its all well done and we will all be fine :-) x

Michelle... Let me know how SW goes, i was doing WW but as mentioned i got sick to death of counting points..... and i was paying £20 a month just to get weighed. So at the mo i use Boots scales once a week to weigh myself and just watch what i eat and exercise. BUT i need something new..... and fast, 2lb put on last week, and dreading weighing myself this week :-( x

Char79uk I was discussing the blood test with my TA the other day and she said the main reason they do it is to check that your not related but obviously they don't advertise this fact. I know people that are having tests done here first just to be on the safe side.

Thank you girls for you kind words about Hollie, she loved trying on the dress, she didn't want to take it off.

Had a webinar with our wedding coordinator the other day and she said they normally recommend people not to get legally married cuz the blood tests/documents needing to be apostilled/marriage cert translation etc

Not keen on blood tests either but I really dont want a different date on my marriage cert to the date we celebrate :(

Kerry... I I think it depends on where in Mexico and what hotel you marry at regarding the apostilled/translation as we dont need to do either. I asked about this at TA's and researched online and looked at the RIU website and checked with another girl who got married at the RIU from the UK.... Its so bloody complicated... wish they would keep it all the same would be so much more simple x

Hi Ladies

I have finally finished the poem for the bridesmaid survival kit let me know what you think.....

This bridesmaid survival kit was made just to say

We're thrilled your beside us on our wedding day

I hope that no tears should fall from your eye

But here is a tissue if you should cry

Chapstick and ligloss to care for your smile

If a nail should break, you'll be set with a file!

Hairspray to keep your hair in place

A mirror to check out your beautiful face

Sparkling sandals for when your heels get to much

A stylish pashmina for that elegant touch.

Thank you so much for all you have done

Your support, your love and all of the fun!

I ordered the small organza tote bags from islepac, they arrived today but are far to small for what i need so am going to have to return them and get a refund and start my search again for bags for all this stuff to fit in lol. Still on the hunt for the ivory and turquoise waistcoats for the men.

Went to try on my dress again yesterday and still love it which is good as i was dreading not liking it as much as i did :) my first actual dress fitting is planned for mid november as it will take 20 weeks for my dress to arrive then the alterations begin in April lol.

Also got on with actually doing some wedding stuff as well made up some place cards and started making my flowergirls headband :)

Herbie....Hollie is so cute she looks so happy in her dress bless she looks the perfect little princess

Michelle....I have been doing slimming world as well been on it for about 2 months now and lost half a stone but thats with very little effort if i am honest as i have had loads going on but its great and will definatly be on it 100% now i have a planned dress fitting day.

Charmaine.....Let us know what resort you decide on hun.

char,,,, try not to stress. I was going to not get married in mexico cos of this. especially when i found out that the cold sore virus is the same as the herpes virus....... hang on a minute... i get coldsores so i can´t get married?????

so i asked the wc, (the one at the riu, same as nicy) and she said it´s only checking for hiv and syphillis.... i specifically asked her about this herpes business, cos i would have gone apeshit if we´d got out there and not been able to get married, but she said not to worry. And i have that in writing!

I am the same. I can see why ppl get married before they go but i want my Mexico Wedding to be my actual wedding date. I heard lots of things about the apostile thing. Our friends got married in Mexico last Sept and they had to take their birth certs and have them apostiled so i was all set to have this done when Bluebay said NO you dont have to unless the bride has been married before (our friends hadn't so i dont get it). As Nicy says i think it depends on which hotel you are getting married at. It is so confusing. Our hotel said you have to have your marriage cert apostiled to make it legal in other countrys and they send it onto you (fee of $55). This can take up to 4 months to arrive. I'm guessing you then have to have it translated in the UK but i will worry about that when it comes! But again maybe this is just our hotel! It is a lot of fuss but it's what we want so will have to just go with it :o) x

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
