Badrianne's (Adrianne's) planning thread super long and pic heavy

Recommended Posts

I’m so excited that it is finally be able to return some of the creative ideas that I’ve been borrowing for 16 months. I hope you’all enjoy my wedding details as much as I’ve enjoyed looking at yours.

I want to thank everyone that I borrowed a template or idea from you are all amazing. Also I’d like to thank my fellow Dreams Puerto Aventuras brides especially Ginalyn who after her wedding stayed to answer all our question and be amazing support.

First the Proposal: I surprised my Josh (FI) with a surprise 30th birthday party (ironically Mexican Fiesta themed) and he surprised me with a proposal. And yes he is wearing a fake mustache and poncho.

After hours … okay I’ll be honest… weeks of online research, we decided on a destionation wedding in Mexico in a small town along the Riviera Maya called Puerto Aventuras (50 miles south of Cancun) at a Dreams Resort. I loved the fact that the town was gated and the resort was known for its gourmet food and premium alcohol. It is affordable for our guests and newly remodeled

Click the image to open in full size. As you can see these were made before finding this forum. They are plain postcards. The front had a picture of a snorkeling cartoon couple that resembled us. We add a magnet to encourage people to keep the STD visable.

Our colors: after looking at a million destination wedding photos, I wanted colors that would stand out against the sand, blue water and sky. I had a vision of purple and orange. An unlikely combination, I know, which means I had a lot of DIY products.

I started by visiting the LA fashion district and picking two fabrics a plum purple satin and and a two toned orange organza (weaved with a yellow and orange/red tread).

Theme: I wasn’t into the shell or palm tree theme. My bridesmaid and fiancé came up with bird of pardise

Our monogram:

Invitations: So I wanted elegant wedding invitations and I was afraid that true plum purple/orange invites wouldn’t make the right impression. So I went with a Merlot and Copper color. These are DIY invites for the most part that ended up costing around $2.25 each including the printing press cost. I got the supplies from Cards & Pockets. I chose the gatecard in New Merlot and copper matting. I used a clip art bird of paradise and designed our invite. I went to our local copy center and had them print the invites using a copper ink on a printing press. FIY set up is the most costly part of the printing press so we had 150 invites done and then 100 card with just the bird of paradise for thank you notes to make it more cost effective. Then I took a ivory ribbon from and wax that can go in a hot glue gun with a “W” stamp. See below. I loved every minute  I had the invites done at least 3 months in advance of sending. Cards and pockets.com provides very nice quality supplies.

Created RSVP postcards for the wedding events. Free from www.vistaprint.com. Pic of Tulum on 1 side and RSVP for the Tulum excursion and late night in Playa Del Carmen on the other side. We put a stamp and our return address. It’s been fun receiving them in the mail. It’s hilarious to find out who is going to the late night playa del Carmen trip…. Like Josh’s grandpa 

Josh loves music and came up with incorporating a wedding mix cd in our guest pre-wedding packet. He designed the cd label, personalized the cd jacket with our proposal picture, an engagement photo, the list of songs and words to Drop Kick Murphy’s, Forever, the song for our first dance.

I’m insane and wanted the prewedding packet to resemble our wedding invitation with the reaccuring ribbon with “W” wax stamp. So I wrapped all 75+ cd’s in orange tissue paper.

hand painted Maracas with our name and date handwritten on handle. We’ll have these on a side table for people to enjoy.

Table décor:

Click the image to open in full size. Orange organza table clothes (custom made) 90” by 90”. Drowned orchids: I found instructions online. I took cylindars from the dollar tree, distilled water, small fishing weights, fishing line, irregular glass pebbles (Michaels) and floating candles. You put the pebbles and water in first. Tie weights to either side of the fishing line to hold the orchids down and use some object (like a spoon) to push the weights into the pebbles so they don’t show. It was pretty simple. I hope to recreate in Mexico. Just have to find flowers.

I’m wrapping the ribbon with the “W” monogram around the napkins to continue the same them that was started with the invites. Also instead of chair bows, I’m just wrapping ribbon around the chair covers to create an elegant look that mirrors the napkins.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
