Hi Simba I will be getting married in the Gran Caribe chapel in a few months. I called and spoke to lupe ramos as she is in charge of all the paper work for the catholic ceremony. She is the church wedding coordinator. The problem is that she was not very helpfull. She told me that they dont have rehersals so that worried me a bit. Also how  did you do it to pic the readings?  She told me they give them to me the day before to pic out! Again a major panic attack because I have to ask the people to prepare to to do a reading. Any light that you can shead would be very  much appreciated. How did you pick your readings and how did your readers know it was time for them to get up and read if there is no rehearsal?

Please help!!!

Congratulations! Thank you for your review. I fell in love with Gran Caribe's chapel and am a little hesitant bc of the wedding coordinator review. Also, was your ceremony in Spanish or English by the priest? I love the carpet down the aisle. Did Gran Caribe do that for you or did you bring it yourself? Thanks again for the review! Beautiful pictures of the wedding and you!

wow...i haven't been on here in a while so I'm sorry for the late response (I hope I'm not too late & you didn't already get married).  Yes, the priest himself will not do a rehearsal but you can ask your resort coordinator for a rehearsal.  I did mine the day before my wedding and it was just our coordinator who showed me, the groom and bridal party how to walk in to the chapel, where to site, etc... It was quick, like 10 minutes.

I did have wedding programs.  I picked out my readings months before the wedding and just emailed them to Lupe for approval.  The priest himself actually emailed me back to tell me he was ok with them.  Did you take pre-cana classes?  I got a book there with a selection of readings and I just chose from there.  But you don't need that book.  You just need one reading from the Old Testament, one reading from the new testament, the responsorial psalm, the gospel reading.  My pre-cana book also had different options for the wedding vows, exchange of rings, and prayers of the faithful - I don't think you HAVE to choose those readings (the priest might just do the traditional ones).  But I'm really picky about everything so I sent them every single reading that I wanted.  You might be able to get one of those books from your local church.

The order of my ceremony was like this:

  1. Opening Prayers
  2. Liturgy of the Word
  • Old Testament Reading
  • Responsorial Psalm
  • New Testament Reading
  • Gospel Reading

3.  Liturgy of Marriage

  • Giving of consent and wedding vows
  • Blessing and exchange of rings

4.  Prayers of the Faithful

5.  Liturgy of the eucharist

  • Preparation of gifts, eucharist prayer
  • Nuptial blessing

My readers actually did not get to do the readings which kind of annoyed me - this was the only glitch in my entire wedding (but there's always something so you have to roll with the punches).  My bridesmaids were supposed to do them but the priest apparantly asked all my guests "who will be doing the readings" and at the time all my bridesmaids were in the room with me so because no one answered he assumed no one would do the readings and he ended up doing them himself.

Hope this helps:)

The ceremony was in English. But be warned that although the priest is Irish he's been living in Mexico for like 40 years so Spanish is his stronger language.  He was reading everything in Spanish and translating it to English in his head before reading it out loud.  It made the ceremony longer.  We are all fluent in SPanish so in hindsight I would've had the ceremony in Spanish if I would've known his English wasn't so strong.

I bought the aisle runner down myself.  I had it custom made at customweddingcreations.com and loved it!  I just asked the Gran Caribe coordinator for measurements.

Hey simba, did you also have a videographer?

No :( And to this day that is my biggest regret.  The wedding was so beautiful and SO MUCH FUN that I really wish we would have captured it all on video.

And was it difficult to take pictures in the chapel due to the location in the resort? I love the dress and color!

It was not difficult at all.  The pictures came out really beautiful...i just need to post them.  Here are just a few from the slide show but I honestly don't think the photographer even picked the best ones for the slideshow.  There are better ones, I just have about 4000 pics from my photographer and it's been hard to sort through and post them.

THANKS everyone for the compliments:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
