I always thought the guests would have to pay for their own day passes if they chose to stay elsewhere? We have not decided on a property yet but if guests choose to stay elsewhere I will make sure my TA informs them they must pay for their own transportation and day pass.

She also has been mentioning to the other BMs that maybe they should all book last minute at another cheaper hotel and then just come for the day of the wedding!!
I was upset about this as I thought the point of having best friends as bridesmaids was so they could hang out with you and help you through the week. I hope she was just brainstorming ideas and not actually planning this!
Wow that's pretty rude! I'd be upset too, hopefully she wont do this.

Yes, that is what we did as well. In addition, I posted this on my website, on the accommodations page "Please note that Guests considering a resort other than the Playacar Palace, must purchase a wedding pass upon their arrival to the resort. Wedding passes are $88.00 USD per person. Wedding passes are guaranteed for purchase only on the ceremony date. (October 10, 2010)"

As insulting as it may seem now... during your vacation there will inevitably be those guests that will want their own vacation and just do their own thing! We had a group of four that treated it as a private vacation... I was insulted at first but then realized that it is really their vacation too!!

That was very smart of you! I wish I would have made it clear like you did. Now it's done and I'm stuggling how I'm going to tell them that they have to pay for their own day pass.... argggg. We have 10 ppl staying elsewhere and it's $95/person . I am NOT prepared to fork out another 10,000 just to have them come. I really do feel bad but it was their choice afterall, righthuh.gif

Yeah, I know what you mean about that nice bonus of getting a free room or free wedding or some sort of discount if you have so many rooms/people book at the resort. Like you, my fiance and I worked (very hard) with a travel agent to get a very competitive group rate so we'd like people to take advantage of it. However, we're not counting on the free room...we're considering it a bonus but don't wanna get my hopes up if for whatever reason not enough people book with the travel company as expected. Honestly, you can't control what other people do...they have a right to spend their money how they see fit and if that means staying somewhere else, well, that's their choice.

Having said that, paying for the cab to get there and the day passes is also their choice and I made it very clear in my travel info letter attached to my invitations that if people choose to stay somewhere else, don't expect me to take care of anything for them (Ok, so I worded it way more politely than that, lol). If they wanna do their own thing, that's cool...as long as they realize that they'll definitely be doing their own thing!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
