What does everyone think of doing a wedding mid-September in Riviera Maya? I know it's not the ideal time, but due to a million other events it seems to work out nice date wise. I was just curious of what others thought. TIA

We're getting married there Sept. 1st this year at the excellence. Rates are cheaper for our guest and it's over labor day so they'll have the extra day off from work. Chances of hurricanes are slim. We did not go for the insurance since airlines would honor change with inclimate weather and the hotel will honor your stay up to a year. We're take the gamble...

Someone wrote in a previous post, they were able to buy $45,000 worth of wedding insurance for $450, to cover everything, including guest's flights. You might want to consider inusurance for september. I found a website somewhere that listed all the hurricanes that have hit the area & when it happened. I don't know if it included tropical storms. I'll see if I can find it again. I think it was 1 every 3 years usually in sept-nov.

I tried to stay out of hurricane season, but our rates are so much higher...

Several couples on here are getting married in October in the RM.

I would think it would be very nice, just have a backup site (which most resorts do) and purchase good insurance. Tammy (host) could point you in the right direction for the insurance piece.

Let us know what you decide :)

Hello!

The hurracaine seasson starts from May to November. September use to be the rainy month but not anymore... nature have changed so bad that when it supposed to be rainy or windy is not any more... besides here in the caribbean you never now sometimes is raining in half of the hotel and in the other half is sunny...it is like a gamble!!

If you get or not the wedding insurance or writing contact the most important thing is in case of rain is your ACTITUDE... when bride and groom starts crying and yelling and being nervious because of bad weather the whole party will react like them... if you take it with calm and start playing under the rain it could even be fun!! everything depends on you!! you are the one who make the rules that day!

However for the mayans the rain was a blessing and means good luck!!

So good luck and don't stress yourself so much with the rain thing!!

Regards,

Yazmin.

Before I moved here I used to spend a week here every September. I've been here the past 5 or 6 Septembers, except the Wilma year, I moved here at the end of October and barely missed it. I love the weather in September/October. Yes there are rain showers but they are brief and refreshing. The water is warm for swimming and it's not too hot in the day. It's also not as crowded. But yes, hurricanes happen. Only the adventurous remain.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
