Looking for credit card recommendations

DH and I are looking to open a joint credit card for everyday expenses like groceries, gas, etc. It will also be used to book travel arrangements. Any recommendations? We want a card that has a good rewards program. It can be cash back or points. Also, no annual fee. Thanks!

I usually do a search for credit cards with 0% interest for 12 months. We got a Citi card with 0% interest and are using it for all wedding related expenses. This seemed like an easier way to keep track of our spending and we don't have to worry about paying it off right away, although we are not going to let it get out of control. There are no rewards. I'm pretty happy with my Chase Amazon credit card though.

Thanks! I guess I should've mentioned that I'm not worried about the interest rate. I don't carry a balance.

American Express cards are great. They are accepted almost anywhere, starting from any amount (you can pay your 3$ starbucks bill with it if you want to). It's also the only credit card accepted at Costco - but I use it litterally anywhere. The only place I can remember that did not accept it was my mani/pedi salon.

 

They have all kind of rewards programs, but always great ! they also carry a lot of insurance in them, which helps. Some of them have no annual fee, you can check on their site.

we have an Amex Starwood card. We love to travel and with the Starwoods card you can stay free at hotels-no black out dates at all. We went to Hawaii for free pretty much and stayed at really nice hotels (Sheraton, W, Westins)

It doesn't matter if you pay your balance every month or not, you're still inviting to much stress into your life, and you're just asking for Murphy to come knocking on your door at the worst time. CC companies flat out don't offer the points/rewards like the used to, and their are so many restricitons on claiming your points/rewards that their almsot useless. I've seen multiple reward and point CC's shut down in the past 2 years b/c of this economic mess.

 

My advice, pay off ALL your debt and NEVER go back.

You need at least one credit card to build credit.

I have discover which is 0%apr and no annual fee's.

and they offer 5% cash back annually depending on their participating vendors.

 

I would like to open an AMEX but not until I pay down my discover. (less than 2k)

which I plan to do after the wedding.

 

the FI has a CITI card which gives us miles and pre-sale to alot of concerts!

while everything you say is true, the evil of it is, you need to carry some debt to establish good credit.

if you do not carry a balance of debt somewhere you are going to be considered as having no credit which can be just as bad as having bad credit.

i have a sister and a friend that paid off all their credit card debt and closed nearly all their accounts. they paid off their car and all store cards. they recently needed to make a purchase and apply for credit and were denied. they have a credit score of close to the 800's. why were they denied. cause the banks and lenders see them as not worth lending money too. they don't want to lend money to people who will pay it back right away. because then the lenders can't make money off of them from interest. they are considered "bad" customers.

while yes credit cards can be evil they are also unfortunately a necessary evil.

I just got a discover card and really liked what they offered as far as no annual fee, 0% apr for balance transfers, etc.

I have a Citi card and can say they are pretty customer friendly. i had to dispute a charge and they got right on it. no annual fee and some rewards programs.

i would never recommend chase. i had a providian card which turned into wamu which turned into chase they have been the worst to deal with. higher interest rates, no reward program to speak of and are very customer unfriendly.

I have a Chase Freedom card. You get "points" for every dollar you spend and can use your points for purchases or for cash back. If you happen to bank with Chase you get more points for certain purchases or categories of purchases.
