Any 2012 brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone and Anyone!

I am new to this website and have found a lot of useful advice!!  I am just beginning the plans for our destination wedding.  We have decided on Punta Cana, and the date will be in May 2012....I need some help choosing a resort and if someone could give me some pointers, I would really appreciate it.  We have approximately 20 guests attending, we have a few kid's as well.  We are trying to be as cost affective for our guests as possible.  Has anyone been married in Punta Cana in May?

Ali12 - Thanks for the tip! One less thing to worry about now. I really had no idea I needed to do either after reading these threads.

Futureride - Last year my FI wanted to have a random all white party last summer.  An all white reception sounds awesome!  4 days when you get back you should be nice & relaxed...ready to celebrate!

LauraCL - My friend is getting married at Dreams in Punta Cana. They are kid friendly with reasonable rates. I have not been there but there are a ton of brides on here that are getting married there. It looks really nice too! There is also a thread for Dominican Republic that I am sure has great suggestions for Punta Cana!

Happy planning & good luck!

Sharon, we personally thought the OOT bags were too much for us but we still wanted to do something for everyone and we found a great website that does the koozies for fairly cheap. And we know everyone will love them lol.

Welcome LauraCL, congrats on your wedding, this site is amazing for info.

We just set our date last night, April 18th at Sandos Playacar Beach Resort!!! So excited now, even more than before lol

I have been searching for a resort in the Playa Del Carmen area and I have not found any prices under $1800/person all inclusive.  Is this normal?  We are looking to have a destination wedding for the end of January 2012 but it seems way out of our guests budget at that price.   I have been told that the prices are inflated for 2012 but this seems crazy!  We will be a group of about 150 guests and I figured that there would be some sort of discount or incentive for such a large group.  is this unreasonable?

I have looked at every resort in the area and it all seems the same.

Does any one out there have any suggestions or know why prices are so high?   Is it just me?

Any input or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Kateks,

We are doing a wedding in April 2012 near playa del carmen and the lowest we could get was $1600 which was also above what we wanted. Our travel agent told us because we are booking so far inadvance that prices are higher not sure when they drop though or if you would want to wait with such a big group. There should be group deals, for us every 15 people we get a $500 credit through a groups booking, I think this is normal and you can decide if you want to spread the money out or whatever you prefer. You should look into that, also what about looking earlier in January, we were told prices start to go up in Feb but maybe they do at the end of Jan too. Originally we wanted to get married in Feb but it was way more. Not sure if this is much help but I hope it is! Ali

I keep posting in the wrong thread...sorry if some of you have read this in the April thread...

Question, how long is everyone staying at the resort? We are not doing 2 separate resorts, just staying at the same. We are getting married on a Thursday & plan on going the Sunday before but not too sure on when to come home. I want to stay as long as possible but FI gets antsy after laying on a beach for 5 days. He was thinking Sunday - Sunday but I wasn't sure if that was long enough seeing as some of our guests said they were staying a week as well....was curious as to what everyone else was doing.

Also, the rates we received were high as well but I think its because its too early. Our rate is about $1200 pp. The airfare isnt out yet(for me) and no promotions or specials are running for next year yet either. We blocked rooms so we can get the discounted prices when they go on sale....I think most resorts offer special freebees when you have a certain amount of guests & meet requirements.

Sharon I replied to you on the other thread lol.

That is a fairly good price you got, is that with taxes?? If so that was our price range but just found something we liked and so far people we are inviting are totally ok with it so we are happy about that.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
