EXCELLENCE Resort Punta Cana - New thread started April 2010

Recommended Posts

Hey TRose, I am moving my wedding and reception to the Jellyfish restaurant.  For the same price as the Gold wedding package I am getting my dream wedding.  The WC there is amazing.  No paying for services I don't need, no extras for the photographer, no plastic chairs (you can request them though LOL) , DJ and private party.  Just a suggestion.

mdb, (merideth) Thank you for much for providing me with that other email. I did send an email and heard back promptly from Isyuney.

However, she did state that it is now required for the wedding couple to book 7 nights in the Excellence Club "OCEAN VIEW" room OR have 5 couples booked for at least 7 nights in any room category to qualify for the discounted wedding package.  Is anyone else having a problem with this?  We only booked the Excellence Club for this reason because the cost to go from a regular room to an Excellence Club Garden View room was less than the discount we would get on the wedding package.  As of now, upgrading to an Excellence Club Ocean View room costs about 3 times as much than the discount you get on the wedding for booking that level of room.

I stated to Isyuney that when we booked our wedding last August, the rules were different. And I also mentioned that although we don't have 5 rooms booked for at least 7 nights, (which equates to 35 room nights) we do have 3 rooms booked 7 nights and then a bunch of other rooms booked for different lengths equaling 46 room nights.  I'm hoping that will be more than sufficient to qualify for the discounted wedding.  Otherwise, we may have to move our ceremony and reception over to the Jellyfish Restaurant.  I know it would be a pain to transfer everyone over there.

@gamcdiarmid, how are you getting everyone over to the Jellyfish Restaurant?

Jellyfish has a bus that will do round trip transportation, for smaller groups they may use a taxi-I'm not sure.  Mayte, the WC there is awsome.  I was sooo lucky that my date was still available-though it only gave her about 10 working days to pull it together.  So far things sound great!   Check out Jellyfish's facebook page, their website, posts on this website as well as debbies dominican travel forum- all which has great advice and pictures.

So, I worried for nothing oops.gif Turns out Griselda was on vacation and just got back in today.  AND, they are going to honor the wedding package discount because I am already bringing enough people to Excellence to qualify regardless of what room I have booked.  So, now I'm wondering if I should try to downgrade my room from the Excellence Club to save the money since being at the Club really won't have any effect on my wedding package price.  I know a lot of girls on here have said that the Club isn't worth it, so for those who think it is worth it, why is it worth it?

Griselda actually phoned me today and I was able to hold the entire conversation in Spanish, which I guess she got a kick out of.  She sent me the Pre-Interview questionnaire that my FI and I are probably going to take care of this weekend.

And, I'm excited because I was able to find an AMAZING deal for my photographer's flight and hotel. Things are coming together, less than 100 days now!

Congrats on the wedding!!

Isuguy and Anna both called me the other day.  They were both so wonderful to speak with.  They were able to clear up all my concerns regarding the extra's for the wedding.  I guess there were a few things that had been lost in translation....however, still keeping my reservation at Jellyfish-I'm too in love with the place.

We are back from our wedding/honeymoon!!  Everything was perfect and exactly as I imagined and even better.

1) Upon arrival they greet you with "Welcome Home" as they hand you a glass of champagne. You never have to lift a finger for anything as long as you're there. The service is wonderful and the people there are so kind and happy.

2) Wedding planners are great and will meet any request you have. My wedding was very simple with only 4 guest in attendance. The flowers were SOO pretty and more than what I expected. The cake was very tasty and elegant.

3) We used Photo Souviner and they were GREAT at their jobs. We did the gold package with the 20 min video and I'm so glad I did...I spent way more on my photos and video than on my dress and it was worth every penny.

4) I can honestly say that if any of you are stressing over anything at all...just stop and enjoy the ride. I know it might seem that the planners are taking a long time to reply or that they might not care about your wedding, but they do this everyday and they will get to your questions. I never stressed and would suggest this resort to anyone for a wedding site.

5) Food was good. Down here in the south we are hooked on heavily seasoned food and in the Dom. Rep. they are not. So I'm sure I dumped tons of salt on everything. But really it's not that bad.

6) Only complaint we have is that the beds are REALLY HARD, but as I told my husband "if that's the only complaint we have it's a great place". Also, we were in Excellence Club which I loved. The night before the wedding he had his own room and it had a odor...i'm willing to bet that most of the floor level rooms (especially garden view) had the same problem.

7) I suggest everyone takes a shot of MamaJuana (atleast one)

8) We took $100 in 1's and that was plenty. The people there don't expect the tip but they do appreciate it. My parents stayed at a dif resort and they said our staff was very friendly and could speak better english than theirs. The beaches were NOT over crowded and no children...very nice.

I really hope this helps someone!! I'm sure there's more, but I just can't think of it now so please message me if there are any questions.

Hey Girls,

Is there anyone who has had a legal ceremony at the resort?  I am wondering if your received your marriage license?  We were married in August and still have not received it.  They said it should arrive in 12 to 18 weeks from the date of our ceremony and it has now been 25 weeks. They have told me three times now that they should have it and were going to send it the following Friday.  And... Nothing yet.  I got another email last Monday saying they would send it Friday... but nothing.  I'm just curious if anyone else is having the same issues. It is beginning to get frustrating.

Thanks,

mdb

Wow! I hate to hear about your troubles Mdb! That makes me even happier that we had a symbolic ceremony @ EPC and did everything legally at home beforehand. If you haven't done it already, I would RUN (not walk) straight to the courthouse! I'd be concerned about health insurance, etc. at this point & not so much with getting my certificate from the DR.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
