EXCELLENCE Resort Punta Cana - New thread started April 2010

Recommended Posts

I've been struggling with where to have my reception. I love reading all the reviews and seeing the locations that the other brides used. I'm thinking that I'm just going to have to wait until I get there & tour the resort to make my final decision. This completely goes against my entire being since I'm a stickler about planning things in advance. LOL!

I had my wedding and reception on the beach!! Beautiful and the reason I got married there!! The cascade pool is also nice or to keep things simple, a private restaurant or sectioned off part of the restaurant depending on how many people you have and if you are willing to spend more to have it private!

Hi Ladies!

Our wedding is now booked at Excellence on Monday, April 25th, 2011 at 5:30PM.  I was originally concerned about the late hour, but I did an internet search and based on the longitude, latitude, and time zone of Punta Cana, I found an internet site that gave me sunset and twilight hours based on any future date.  Looks like we'll be getting married at Golden Hour (sorry, I'm actually a wedding videographer on the side and know how important lighting is).  I'm in touch with the resort and my WC told me that the Judge does not perform the ceremony, but only shows up at the end to sign the paperwork.  Does that mean that we can have a friend perform the ceremony, or does it need to be a minister of some sort to make it legal?  We're not religious, and therefore don't want any type of religious ceremony, and just thought that having a friend perform the ceremony would be a nice touch.  Any info on that would be greatly appreciated.  I happen to live about 5 minutes from the nearest Dominican Consulate, so I'll be going directly to them for all the translations and preparing of the documents.  Congrats to everyone on their upcoming nuptials!

When we had our wedding, we were told that in order for it to be a legal ceremony, a friend or someone who we brought with us could NOT perform the ceremony.  This has nothing to do with it being religious or now. Our ceremony was legal but not religious.  Hope this helps. : )

I got married this august at 5:00 and we took pictures until dinner time and that was around 7 and we ran out of light.  Didn't get some pictures that I wanted. I would say make sure you leave enough time.

The cascade pool is pretty private and very beautiful.  I would say that it would probably be pretty buggy by the beach.  Although it would be beautiful.

gamcdiarmid,  I'm in the same boat as you.  We're getting married in February at 5pm and originally the WC scheduled us for 4pm.  I thought this was a mistake but when I asked her she said having the ceremony at 4 would give us time for pictures.  I'm wondering if I should switch the time back to 4pm.

I'll let you know if I find anything out.

gamcdiarmid-

The website is:

http://www.sunrisesunset.com/custom_srss_calendar2.asp

Put in the month, year, and the following numbers--

Latitude: 19N

Longitude: -70.6667W

GMT: -4

No daylight savings

And you'll get a calendar of the month showing you the times you need.  Hope that helps.

meridithota: My wedding was originally scheduled for 5PM and she moved mine up to 5:30PM. Since we're in April, I'm assuming we should be okay. Use the website above to get the best idea of you'll need to try to switch it back.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
