Dress ordering advise

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how long does most dresses take to come in? I'm not getting married til March 2011, but thats only ten months away...not very long at all! I also plan on dropping at least 20lbs....but if I need to order a dress now, should I order the size I am now? or a little smaller? I know I can lose the weight...have done if before. I just don't want to be swimming in the dress when it comes in; how many sizes can it be altered?

Any advise is appreciated!

It's never too early to start the dress shopping. I ordered mine about nine months before my wedding. I went shopping on and off for about two months and eventually found one that had all I was looking for. I would suggest that you not jam dress appointments into one day/weekend. Maybe go every other weekend and take a look. This way you can see what looks best on you. I was so overwhelmed the first day of shopping. Take some pictures of dresses or have certain styles in mind. Don't feel pressured to get something. Once you find the one you love take some time to think it over and bring a friend/mom for second opinion.

It usually takes 4-6 months to get a dress delivered. I wouldn't recommend getting it a smaller size because you can always alter it to make it smaller. If you can't fit in it that will be a problem.

Good Luck and enjoy!!

Honestly order the size you are now. Also would suggest a corset back so you can take it in and out. Its easier to take in then to let out! I would not order smaller because you think you will loose the weight. Things can happen that is just my 2cents!

Also time of ordering depends on the designer. You are under 1yr now so I would suggest to start looking soon and order by June!

I really think it depends where you get your dress from. I ordered mine 8 months prior to my wedding. They told me it would take 4-5 months to come in but it got here in less than 2. It's never too early though. Better safe than sorry you know. Good luck!

I ordered mine a year before the wedding - it took 6 months to come in. i didn't start going for fittings till 6 weeks before the wedding - i'd lost 15 lbs and a bunch of inches since - they were able to take it in no problem - You can always have things taken in. if it's too small, there's not usually a lot of fabric to let the dress out - don't take the chance.

I think it all depends on the dress. I ordered my dress back in November and was fitted for my muslin February, but it is not scheduled to come into the store until August!! Thats also because I ordered it custom. So it depends on where you get your dress and whether you have any customizations done. I would say start looking and getting a feel for the styles you like. Once you have found a few that you like or a particular salon, enquire as to how long they take in the process and plan accordingly. Good luck and enjoy dress shopping.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
