I got married in Costa Rica in December 2009 and loved it. It's so beautiful, and the people were really nice and friendly. We flew into Liberia and got married at the Occidental Grand Papagayo in Guanacaste. While we were there we rented a car and drove south down the coast towards Tamarindo, Playa Hermosa, etc. I would highly recommend CR!! The only thing I wanted to do that we didn't get to do was go to the volcano, but because we were staying on the coast and the volcano is more in the middle of the country, it would have taken about three hours to get there. And we decided we didn't want to spend an entire day to do it. I've heard it's really cool though. We went on a fabulous tour (of course I'm blanking on the name right now...) where we went zip-lining, horseback riding, down a huge waterslide, and to a hot springs. It was awesome.

Hi KSK! If you could think of the tour company you went with I would love to hear about it. We are planning for next April, and I would like to go on a zipline tour as well. I've heard good and bad with the tours and if you had a good experience I would love to look into it.

Thanks!

KJW - it was the Buena Vista Canopy Tour. Here's their website: Costa Rica Eco Lodges – Buena Vista Lodge. They take you to the tour location in a van, and the guide explains about the people, culture, scenery, etc. on the way there. First, we went ziplining and then down a huge water slide. Then we had lunch, rode horses up to the hot springs, and then just relaxed at the hot springs in the sauna, mud bath, and different temperature pools. It was a great time, and I would highly recommend it! Where are you staying in CR?

We haven't yet picked the place. We are wanting to be in the Tamarindo area, not necessarily in the town, but in the vicinity. How did you like Occidental Grand Papagayo?

Thanks for the info on the tour company, I'm going to look at that right now!

If you are not wanting to be in the middle of busy Tamarindo, Playa Grande is a choice. Separated by the estuary, it is a less busy place. More peaceful and relaxed. Langosta, which is right outside of Tamarindo is also quieter but more like condos for rent, Villalegre B&B and the all-inclusive Barcelo (a little too loud & busy). Hotel La Posada in Hacienda Pinilla is about 25min outside of Tamarindo, take a look at that. Here's a wedding we had there to get and idea: tia & jonathan hotel la posada, hacienda pinilla guanacaste, costa rica 2010 (by Events & Weddings CR)

Thanks Ask Costa Rica! We have decided that we want to go to an All inclusive, would you have a list of all the all-inclusive resorts within Tamarindo and in close vicinity?

As I mentioned before, we don't really want to be in the city, but I would still like to look at all our options. Thanks for your help with this :)

In Tama there is only one: Barcelo Langosta. 30min away from Tama: Paradisus Playa Conchal. 10min from Paradisus Playa Conchal in Flamingo: Flamingo Beach Resort.

One hour & half away from Tama going back on the main road and to Playas del Coco: Occidental Gran Papagayo and Allegro Papagayo. At the tip of Nicoya Peninsula: Barcelo Tambor. Hope this helps.

Yes, that was a big help. I think we've now narrowed it down to 4 places (which I think is a good start!!):

Barcelo Langosta and Flamingo Beach Resort

Paradisus Playa Conchal and Allegro Papagayo (which maybe a bit pricey so these might be out right away)

Thanks again for your input!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
