Playacar Palace BAD REVIEWS, need input

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

We just booked our Wedding for Jan and I just read all the reviews from TA and now I'm nervous too. I wonder if its because of the merger with Wyndam. Everything has been so positive until now. I don't know what to make of it.

While I was staying at the Aventura Spa Palace in November, we did the Zip Line excursion which stopped at Playacar Palace to pick up a couple that was honeymooning there. We asked them how they liked staying there. From what I gather, they really liked it. It is smaller than most of the Palace resorts which means less restaurant options but they liked the smallness and felt like they got more attention.

What I really liked about it, is that located in Playa del Carmen so if you want to leave the resort and experience some authentic Mexican culture, it is all right there within walking distance. The resorts are nice but to me there is a vanilla type of a feel and nothing truly authentic. We are considering Playacar Palace for our mini-honeymoon after our wedding. Also compared to ASP, Playacar has a real beach I believe. Everything from the outside looked nice too.

This was back in November so I don't know when the Wyndham merger happened so it could be changed since then.

We're going to be married at Playacar Palace in November of this year - and the reviews I have read don't make me nervous at all....

We went down in January for a site visit and looked at four hotels total - Playacar Palace was our favorite HANDS DOWN. I read one of the reviews on Trip Advisor about a guy saying the music was "cheesy" at PP and that he didn't like the food. He also said he ended up at the Fairmont Mayakoba.... and spent twice the amount of $$ on his room. I am familiar with both hotels.... Playacar Palace is all an inclusive, intimate resort on the edge of Playa del Carmen (walking distance to 5th avenue). The Fairmont Mayakoba is a sprawling resort (only 4 years old), NOT all Inclusive, and about 20 minutes from town. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

The Playacar Palace has been nothing but WONDERFUL to work with in planning stages - and I can't wait to go back in November :)

Please let me know if you girls have any other questions!

I am with Steph on this one! My experience was just the opposite when we were there as well!

Everything is fine with Playacar Palace! The merge has had absolutely no affect on the resort in itself, simply the name change. As mentioned, everyone has their own opinion about food, service, restaurant, valet, pillows, views, etc...

The resort is gorgeous, and I would recommend Playacar Palace or any of the Palace Resorts for destination wedding and honeymoon.

I just want to let everyone know that Wyndham and the people at the Palace resorts have been extremely responsive to my concerns. The Wyndham customer service rep called me a day after I sent the email. That really impressed me. I am going there the weekend of July 4th for a site visit to check everything out before my September 5th, 2010 wedding.

If the Playacar Palace is anything like the Vallarta Palace that I just went to for a vacation, then I have no concerns about this resort. That place was really beautiful, well kept, and had excellent food. The rooms were also lovely as well (they look like the Playacar Palace rooms).

I will let everyone know what my experience is after July 4th weekend, I will report it all back on this forum.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
