Choosing Wedding Cake

Recommended Posts

Ladies,

Since most of us are having a destination wedding at a resort somewhere in paradise, how are you all choosing your wedding cakes?

We were given several choices for cake, filling, and topping but we are not going to the island until 5 days before the wedding at which point the order should already be made. One of my friends suggested asking a local bakery to prepare samples that we might be interested in trying. Are any of you having trouble figuring out what kind of cake to order? If so, suggestionshuh.gif

Thanks!

When I ordered mine I was having trouble with that as well. I thought about sampling at a local bakery but then decided that I was just going to pick flavors that FI and I like. We went with a vanilla with strawberry filling for the bottom tier and chocolate with lemon filling for the top! Both were delicious!

I'm bringing my own and just getting them to decorate it. I've travel with this kind of cake before and then decorated it at my destination. Of course, that was a smaller cake. I have made a lot of trips to Ocho Rios so it's easier for me to sample the cake there.

Wow, I have no idea how a cake can travel well! That would be impressive.

I looooove fresh fruit but I don't know if that's an option, at least for the cake itself. I would love it if it was loaded w/ strawberries. Everything strawberry tastes good :)

i just went with the safe choice (chocolate, of course). my resort has a tres leches cake that is supposed to be to die for, but they have melting issues with it. since my reception is outdoors in the humidity, i sadly decided against this.

i am not a huge fan of frosting flowers on cakes, so i opted to pay a little extra for a natural flower cake topper that will go with my bouquet.

that being said, i've heard that the cake doesn't always even get eaten all that often. most of the dinners at resorts come with dessert and the guests are so full that they often don't even eat the cake. so i'm prepared for this and just went with the cake provided in my package instead of upgrading to one of the adorable couture cakes.

good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
