My TA says he is "looking into" getting us a first class bump, but I'm not holding my breath. We're flying with Air Canada, and from what I've heard it's more likely to happen if you have a large® party. Since we only have a few guests flying with AC as well, it's highly unlikely. I'll keep my fingers crossed though!

Unpurchased FC seats are usually given to the frequent fliers with platinum or gold status. Quite often, these people are upgraded 24 hours before the flight, so you really should call your airline, or have your TA call if you're booking through a TA. If you're willing to pay for the upgrade, go ahead and call now to ask about the upgrade. I'm a flight attendant, and we aren't allowed to upgrade anyone, even if the plane is leaving with empty FC seats. Only the ticketing/gate agents can do upgrades. I don't know about other airlines, but usually it's just annoying when people get all the way on to the plane and ask me for an upgrade.

FC closets are usually very small, so an overhead bin is usually the best place to put your dress.

Well i do not plan on harassing anyone, it was just a small dream. If it happens...sweet! if not no big deal!

As for my dress, I have already called ahead and they said that if they can fit it, then they will put it in the closet if not then it goes in the overhead.

No big deal, we have a free pressing at our hotel for the gown:)!But it is nice to know that those who have experienced the "dress in the bin", that your dress was not completely destroyed!

Back in the "good old days" travel agents used to get bumped to first class quite often.. not so much anymore, but for your best chance at it, I would suggest dressing very nicely, no jeans or shorts, and being very very polite and friendly to the gate agent. Ask if you can wait for boarding to complete and see if it is possible to stand by for a first class seat. You may lose the space in the overhead bin of your assigned seat if you dont get bumped up, but your chances are better if you are sitting and waiting politely then if you are already boarded and settled in in coach. Most of the time Frequent Fliers using Mileage are filling up the first class section, but the gate agents do have the power....

Another tip I have had great success with is to stop by Sees or other candy/treat shop in the concourse and buy a box of candy, and once boarded call the flight attendant over and present it and say "We just wanted to thank the crew for your hard work".

They will be so surprised and pleased you may find yourself upgraded on the spot, or offered free drinks, meals, or huh.gif ... and if nothing else you will have made someone's day!

My FI and I decided not to take any chances, we cashed in points -His company credit card and his buiness partners. They were going to expire and never be used. I have never flown first class and most likely never will again, so we decided if we ever were this would be the time to do it!

We did! A very very nice lady from AirTran Airways upgraded us at about 3am while we were exhausted and cranky in the airport.

Then FIL proceeded to make a huge scene about why HE didn't get upgraded... grr... but that's another story!

It was the dress that gave us away, and got us a free upgrade. :) Carrying it on was a huge PITA!, but at least it was good for something.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
