Cocktail Reception???

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies,

At first we were going to just have a casual backyard BBQ but now FI's mom offered to pay for a reception somewhere. So we have picked a really nice venue in Newport, RI. It is just a cocktail reception with stations and whatnot. Has anyone else done this and wore their wedding dress again? Or should I just buy something white but more casualhuh.gif

This is so confusing :-)

I'm not speaking from experience but I think that it would be cute for you and FI to make an entrance in your wedding attire, maybe do a dance or welcome everyone and then you could change into a more comfy 'reception dress'. That way the guests would get to see you in your dress but you wouldn't necessarily have to wear the gown all night.

UNLESS you want to wear it all night, in which case I say go for it!!

I think I will want to wear my wedding dress again. Not too many brides get to wear their dress twice. Also, the people who were unable to come will probably want to see it. I went to a reception before where the bride just wore a plain old dress and not her wedding dress and I have to admit I was disappointed.

My parents offered to make our AHR and we are wearing our wedding clothes again. Ours is a lunch in a restaurant but we decided that it's still our day and a celebration of our wedding so we can wear what we want. It's the most expensive clothing we own so if we can wear it more than once...we will!

i have been debating this exact thing for the past week! my fiance and i are living in mn (where i am from) and he is from wi. at first we were just going to do small ahr in the spring, in both mn and wi (we are getting married in november). but my grandma (who isn't going to the wedding) insists i wear my dress at a reception afterwards. so i am thinking of just doing a cocktail hour with drinks/appetizers, and wearing my dress. my fiance isn't all about me wearing my dress and him wearing his suit, but i think it would be nice for those who aren't at the wedding. we have mostly friends/family friends/fiance's family going to the wedding, so most of my family won't see me in my dress. and i know my grandparents would want to see it. so although it might seem a little 'odd' to be putting on your dress again, i think it would mean a lot to those who weren't there. and its your dress! i agree with everyone else that it just gives you another day to feel like a princess and wear your dress, which most brides don't get to do :)

I'm 100% wearing my dress again! I agree people who didn't make it to the DW would love to see you, but most importantly I want to wear it. From a little girl I always looked at wedding dress dreaming of the day I would wear mine. Then shopping for it with my fam was so much fun! Thats why I'm not doing the TTD in my "real" wedding dress, I don't want to risk ruining it.

Who knows maybe after the wedding my husband (sooo weird to say he'll be my husband :o) ) will come home to me sitting on the couch in my wedding dress LOL

I'm definitely wearing my dress again! Not many brides get to have double the wear out of the most expensive dress they'll ever buy! We're not sure yet if FI will be buying or hiring his suit, but if he buys it, he'll definitely wear it again and I'm going to ask the BMs to wear their dresses. There'll be a load of friends and family who won't be joining us abroad, so they'll be really pleased to see the outfits. We're also having a blessing in FI's grandma's room at her care home earlier that day and I may even wear it there!

I am definitely planning on wearing wearing my dress atleast for the beginning of our AHR. My grandmother also will not be able to make it, so it will be nice to atleast come out in the dress and do our first dance over again ? Then I will most likely change into a more casual/fun white cocktail dress since we are having a cocktail reception.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
