How do you motivate yourself?

Recommended Posts

So now that my wedding is over, my fantastic honeymoon has come to and end and I'm finally back in the habit of waking up to go to work every-morning. I'm eating normal and healthy again and am feeling well adjusted into the usual routine... except....

I just cannot motivate myself to exercise! I need help!

Before the wedding I was at least going to yoga 2 times a week and walking a lot and just trying to be active. Now all I want to do after work is go home and do nothing! I told myself that I would give myself one week back before I started back at yoga but now it's been two weeks and I just can't get motivated to go.

I went to one class last weekend and it wasn't a "hard" class at all but I'm si out of practice that it FELT really hard! Now I don't want to go back - even though I know it will get better.

How can I motive myself to start exercising again? I know I need to to maintain/lose weight, to be healthy overall, to get more energy, etc. My DH is harassing me as to why i'm not exercising anymore and I don't have a reason except that I am just finding it impossible to motivate! How do you guys motivate yourself to get back out there? Any advice?

good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!pinkie.gif

i ask keith to be brutally honest...and when he is, i know it's time to get my a$$ back to the gym...it is easier when i go w/ him but he gets home late sometimes...i've also tested out a bunch of gyms, looking f or the right atmosphere and the right classes...enjoying them helps to keep me motivated...

do you have a friend to go with you? i have no friends around here (i know, poor me wink.gif), but i'm attempting to make some in the classes...that way they can be like "where were you last week?" when i'm slacking...

Is that a picture of your daughter? She is beautiful! What does she think of her crazy, outspoken mom? I bet she thinks your great.

Kash, maybe you should find workout buddy, that is how I make myself exercise, I know there is someone else depending on me.

kash, trust me it is so hard to get my fat ass to prenatal yoga...

  • find a class that you really like...like they have a strip-arerobics class that i will take once i have the baby...

  • maybe have a gym buddy that will meet you for owrkouts so can't flake for the smallest reason (i used to just make up reasons not to work out).

  • schedule it into your week...i liked to schedule mine during work because it was easier choosing between work and working out...instead of choosing between working out and sitting on your couch.

  • and lastly, treat yourself at the end of the week if you have met your goals...whether it is a frozen yogurt or a massage..

You guys are the best!

Tammy, I love your idea of exercising during work! You are SO right - exercise is an easy choice between that and work!

I think maybe if I can find a work out buddy it will help a lot. Part of my problem is that before the wedding Dan and I went together so it was more fun. But now he's taking two classes at UCLA and of course working so he;s been staying home and doing homework and studying and well just not going with me. Its so much harder to motiate by myself while he stays at home.

Maybe I will see if a friend of mine from work wants to start taking a class with me someone... hmmm... you guys are brilliant!

I also love the idea of the rewards - the long term effects of exercise are of course the long term awards but I need something more tangible. OK, I'm going ot go look and see if I can find some sort of class to take near work - maybe one of my friends will go with me...

Thank for the Cheers - they really GO help!

I'm right there with you. It can be so hard to get going. Its so awesome that Jay and I belong to the same gym. I find the challenge is just getting to them gym. Once I'm there, I love it and I love the way I feel after. Thinking about how good I feel after I work out can motivate me too.

Thank you! I'm biased, but I think she's a knock-out too! :) Yep, it's my daughter, Audrey---- it was taken in December for the family dinner portion of her 16th birthday celebration.

As for thoughts about me---- she thinks I'm nuts, but in a cool way... I'm like the "trophy" mom---- she wants to show me off to her friends because I'm not the "conventional, conservative" type. :) She's a lot like me--- brutal honesty tempered with goofiness. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
