November 2011 Brides (or Grooms)

I actually do feel like I am doing quite a bit of planning/stressing, but none of it is for the destination wedding!  My fiance and I are getting legally married back home before we leave for Mexico.  Originally I had envisioned the two of us with our parents at the courthouse and then a simple dinner out afterwards.  However my fiance really wants the dog to be there (since he obviously can't come to Mexico), and after everything that I am getting my way on with the wedding it is only fair that he gets to have this.  So now we have to get legally married outdoors which means finding a park, finding an officiant for a weekend (likely a Sunday), so now siblings want to come, possibly having our photographer there, getting a nicer dress, and a bigger dinner event.  I am letting the Mexico wedding float for the time being since so much is coordinated by the resort while I try to get a handle on planning this second ceremony.

The cool thing is that I now get to have 2 wedding ceremonies, 2-3 receptions (dinner after legal, reception in Mexico, At Home Party when we return), and 2 honeymoons (we are staying in Mexico a few extra days and then we just booked a Mediterranean cruise for September of next year as a honeymoon/1 year anniversary trip).  Yeah for destination weddings!!!

I feel the same as you. I still feel like it's so far away! I haven't done much planning yet. LOL I'm glad I'm not the only way that feels that way. I'm still trying to figure out who's coming as well and I also think by August I should know who is coming....good luck with the planning!

We will be celebrating the symbolic destination wedding date.  My fiance kept wanting the legal date as our anniversary, but I argued that the day we stand up in front of our friends and family is the day we should celebrate.  He eventually gave in because he didn't care enough to agrue with me :-)

Hello fellow Nov 2011 brides!  Since we're all around the same time I'm wondering when you guys are sending out invitations (if you haven't already)??  We sent STDs in January (10 months out) and I'm about to send the invites (6 months out) with an RSVP date of August 1st (3.5 months out) - so that we can release our room block if needed.

Am I sending the invites to early???

I would say no, you aren't sending them out too early at all. Not for a destination wedding at least! I think in general people appreciate having more time to plan and stuff (if they didn't already do so based on your STD).

I decided to skip the STD and send out invites only and give people LOTS of time to decide, plan, book, etc... we sent those out in early February. Same as you were thinking - my invite said to have their travel finalized by August 1st as well, so I could release extra rooms if needed.

HELLO FELLOW NOVEMBER BRIDES!!

I was so excited to find this thread.  More brides to discuss things with.  :)

11~18~11 at Aventura Palace Resort.

18 is a very important number to both of us so our wedding date had to be on the 18th.  I even skipped over 6 months (thought 6-18-11 originally) just to find another 18th on a good day LOL.

Anyways....I briefly browsed thru the thread and I am so excited to see other Palace brides on here.

Planning is going well but like most of you everything is figured out and now I just have to wait to find out how many guests are showing up.

 - Buying my dress this Tuesday (super excited to check that off)

 - Bridesmaid dresses are narrowed down to 4 dresses from the same designer

 - Passport Invites are done (on the computer) but waiting for a new cute picture of us to put on them before printing

 - Invites getting mailed out in June with an RSVP of 8/18/11 which gives me 3 months to buy the things I need

 - Already have my wedding shoes and back up flip flops

 - Making BM gifts (bedazzling flip flops, wristlets, etc.)

 - FI has his white linen suit already :)

 - Already have La Luna booked for my photographer and I am super excited about that

 - We are waiting for Virgin America to come out with their November pricing for flights down to Cancun - super cheap!!

 - We are booking our flights home this weekend using our Jetblue points (FREEEEEEE!!!)

 - We have 8 ppl booked so far

Right now all my stress is coming from the AHR.  FI and I are paying for our wedding and his parents are offering to pay for the AHR.  It's going to be big and formal and it's stressing me out!!  I am trying to leave it all up to FI and his parents to decide on budget and location and other things but I am the type of person that needs to be in control so I am doing so much research and contacting places and getting pricing but its pretty much up to them so I feel like I'm just spinning the wheels and going no where.  UGH!! wacko.gif  But I want to make sure my FI is happy and gets the wedding reception he really wanted since he agreed to having a destination wedding knowing most of his friends won't be able to make it.

So besides all of that I am celebrating my 30th bday msnparty.gif  this weekend so that should take my mind off wedding stuff for a while.  Until Tuesday when I go to buy my dress and all the thoughts start flooding my head again haha!!

Have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend everyone!!

Since this a lull in the planning for a lot of us (when we have booked the resort, photographers, etc. but we are waiting to know how many guests we have before we finish planning) I thought it could be fun to share all of the fun wedding detail items that we are buying.

I have bought:

- dress hanger that is wood with a metal cross bar that is bent to say "Mrs Chang"

http://www.etsy.com/listing/62804655/personalized-custom-brides-wedding-dress

- blue panites that are embroidered with "Mrs Chang" for my something blue from etsy

http://www.etsy.com/listing/51334389/bride-to-be-panties

- garter with rival university logos

http://www.funweddingthings.com/item_786/TEAM-RIVALRY-Bridal-Wedding-Garter--Pick-Your-Two-Sports-Teams-or-Schools.htm

- parasol painted with "Chang" (an etsy seller that normally writes "Thank You" or "Just Married" is customizing for me)

http://www.etsy.com/listing/56986944/large-brockscript-thank-you-handpainted

- personalized koozies to go in the OOT bag and to give out at our At Home Party (200 for $122 including S/H)

http://www.discountfavors.com/custom-koozies+economy-collapsible-coolies.html

- (what I am most excited about) a custom cake topper that will look a lot like us and even have our dog.  The artist in China is working on it now, based on pictures I sent him, and has sent back some proofs to make sure I like it each step of the way.  This will be a surprise for my FI as he is bummed that our dog can't go to mexico with us.  Here is a link to his ebay posting:

http://cgi.ebay.com/personalizd-Custom-wedding-Cake-Topper-figurine-gift-/170489624914?_trksid=p3286.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D9098263052822027342

Let me just say that my planning thread is going to be a beast to read.  I have been on this forum since I got engaged last June and have just loved all of the planning threads.  So, to make things easier on myself, I have been compiling my planning thread as I go.  So every time I buy something or create something the first thing I do is add it to my planning thread.  I think I might be an addict.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
