I have Pilar as my WC. I didn't really have to do much, I just asked. I am not using the resort photographer and I am not having a band play during the ceremony (I think that is what they changed in the package instead of having a DJ.) Who is your WC...it seems that Ana doesn't let any switching but so far with Pilar I haven't had any issues. Good Luck!! :)

I got Ana to agree to give us an extra hour of video since we weren't using the judge or minister, but with an extra $100 fee, which is about what an hour of video SHOULD be worth, rather than the $400 they charge. She did tell me it was a 'special circumstance' and that they are not allowed to make swaps, but she seems to tell that to almost everyone. I've heard from previous brides that it is sometimes easier to get her to agree to the swap once you are down there, but it sure makes planning ahead of time difficult.

We aren't techically bringing a photographer, I booked Gonzalo Nunez. He has been absolutely fantastic! We will have him included in our count for dinner and I think we just have to pay $50 for a day pass for him. I struggled finding someone who was in our budget but Gonzalo not only has great photographs but he is also had the best package for the price that I could find. I haven't had my wedding yet but so far he has been nothing but great! Good luck!

Ana told me that the outside photographer would have to pay the day pass which I believe is $65. Most photographers bring an assistant too so that would double the cost. When I asked about swapping out my photographer for live music or something Ana told me no swapping was allowed but she offered to give me a free guest pass for the photographer. Not much of a swap if you ask me. I need to figure out how to negotiate with her though....

I believe Pilar told me that all I would have to do is pay the day pass, which is $50 or $65...I can't remember the exact number but I know that it wasn't anywhere near $350. Maybe once you are done there and face to face with Ana it might be easier to negogiate some things. Good Luck!

Hi All

I have Pilar as my WC as well and she told me the same thing - it was just a day pass for the photographer. Ive been looking around to see what is in my budget for photos etc vs using the resort photographers. Its quite expensive from what I have found so far - but am struggling with what to do since pics are pretty much the only thing Im really concerned about.

It sounds like most people aren't using the resort photographers. Any particular reason why? I checked out their work - it looks ok but it definitely didn't blow me away :)

The reason we chose not to use the resort photographer was because we have photographers from home we have worked with and love and they are coming down with us for the week. We have 'donated' our photos from the resort to some friends of ours who will do a photo shoot with the resort photographer and they will get all their prints which are included in the package.  If we hadn't brought photographers from home, we would have used the resort photographer ourselves.

I have done a lot of online research for photographers in the mayan riviera area and they don't come cheap. Prices range from about $2000 for 6 hrs to $5000. With a TTD added to the 6 hrs about  $2600- 6000. The reason I didn't like the resort photographer was I felt the pictures kind of fell flat and weren't overly creative. They look nice at first glance but once I started looking at other wedding photographer photos I then realized they weren't nearly as good. Some of the photographers whose prices were most reasonable include: Sascha Gluck, Dean Sanderson, Fine Art Studio and Ivan Luckie (a little more). Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
