Thanks so much! Angel (Angela) did my hair and make-up and used what they had. I did a practice session so the first time around I let her do what she thought would look nice and I loved it, so we duplicated it for the wedding day. I brought pics in of what I wanted my hair to look like and she did a great job. She asked me along the way if I was liking it, so that was good. She was very accommodating.

No one brought us gifts to Mexico other than cards. We didn't buy much so we didn't really have to "declare" anything. Coming in to Mexico, the only thing that customs questioned us about were our floating candles, which I thought was weird. It's not like we had 1,000 or enough to sell! We told them what they were for and that was the extent of their questioning.

Good luck and enjoy it!

Kim

Hey kimmysue,

You're pics are fantastic! Looks like you had an incredible and beautiful wedding :)

I'm getting married in two months and have the same ceremony/reception places as your was. Did they put up the white fabric on the pergola and walkway or did you specially request that?

Also, on the terrace did you have your tables all in a straight line? And if you did, does it look like there's any other way to configure them?

Thanks so much!

Chantal

Thanks Kim! I know that all the love said that they got stuck in customs so I wasn't exactly sure what I had to declare going into Mexico. I am trying to not bring too much stuff with me just to make it easier. Good to know about Angel...I wasn't sure if I had to bring my own makeup or if she would have everything that I would need! :)

So, here's the info about customs. You have to declare anything over a total value of $300 per person (or $600 per couple - so if you bring more than $600 worth of stuff) that is NOT FOR PERSONAL USE. So this includes gifts plus all your wedding supplies (favors, decorations, OOT bags, etc). It does not include your dress, shoes, clothes, or anything else that is for personal use. You only need to declare the value over $600, and you have to pay tax on that (16% I think).  I think most people are probably fine; our problem was that our wedding party gifts were $220 each and we had 9 of them.

And yes, Angel did my makeup and he had all his own stuff. Watch out for that black eyeliner (it comes in a pot instead of a pencil). It took me days to get that stuff off! The stuff he used was definitely different than my makeup, and it stood up really well in the heat.

Both of your pictures are beautiful!! I am surprisingly very calm about everything but then again I still have about 6 months to go!! I am, however, getting nervous about customs and declaring items! What exactly do you have to declare? Just gifts?

Also, this is probably a dumb question, but does Angel have makeup that he uses or does he ask that you bring your own? I have my own makeup but I just didn't know if I needed to bring it for him for the wedding!

Thanks ladies!! :)

Just remember, it's the total value of everything and not the value of any individual items.

Kimmy - Your pics are fantastic!  My fiance and I left on Friday from Now Jade, so we actually saw the hotel staff setting up the gazebo for your wedding that day.  Looks like your wedding turned out fabulous!  The weather was perfect! We didn't want to leave back to NYC that day....

We stayed at Now Jade for our site visit trip and we really loved the hotel!!!  I will be posting my reviews of Now Jade and of all the other hotels that I visited very soon.  Hopefully it will help any other brides who are still trying to decide what hotel they should choose.

I'm between two choices right now: Now Jade and Barcelo Maya Palace.  They are both very beautiful resorts, but different from each other.  Fortunately, my date: Feb 26, 2013 is available at both! So now I just need to make my decision.

Does anyone have recommendations on travel agents that they worked with for travel/room rates at Now Jade????  I would really appreciate any leads.  I really want to contact a few travel agents over the next few days to iron out the travel/hotel contract and send my STD's.  Pilar and Ana told me that once I blocked the rooms thru a travel agent, that my date would be booked.   But they didn't have any contact information.

So please, if any recent brides can recommend a travel agent, or if you have any tips on the best way of going about finding one.  I'd really appreciate all your recommendations and advise!  Either post, private message, or you can email me: [email protected].

Thanks ladies!!!!

Hi Caroline,

TA Wendy here, from right here on the BDW forum / Wright Travel Agency...  I work quite frequently with the Now Jade and also with the Barcelo Maya Palace. Both are great choices, but you are right .. very different. Barcelo is such a large complex, and in such a far south location. Very removed and away from it all. Now Jade is in such a convenient location to the airport, and AM Resorts offers such good benefits for groups..  One of the wedding groups I worked with at the Now Jade was just there Nov 5-12, you just missed them!

At any rate, I would like to offer my services if you would like to speak with me. You can reach me by PM here on the forum or at my direct email at [email protected].

Please feel free to do a search on myself and / or Wright Travel for reviews posted by other brides here.

Best regards,

TA Wendy

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
