My fiance and I are also getting married here...our date is June 13, 2011 and we are expecting to have between 45-50ish guests! Our colors are pink and orange..we are using the beach for the wedding..blue bar for the cocktail and I am undecided now about the reception..I thought orginally I would want the beach, but now I am leaning more towards the bamboo room! Is anyone doing the civil wedding?

As far as just tourist stuff-everyone takes US dollars or credit cards.  I didn't use any travellers checks-but I'm sure you could use those too.

The only downside to using cash is that they will typically give you change in peso's.  And that's all good as long as you intend to use them.  I just tried to carry smaller bills so that I wouldn't get a ton of change in peso's back.  I used all the peso's I had left over to leave tips for the maids, bell boys, etc.

Here are a few questions scattered around that I don't think I answer yet:

Shipping Decorations - I didn't ship anything.  I'm just too paranoid to do that-I'd be worrying constantly if everything got there.  My parents, aunt and maid of honror helped with taking on some extra carry on bags.  With that-we were able to get everything there.

DJ - The resort DJ is named Alex Martinez and his email is this: [email protected]  I did not meet with him before hand but we corresponded through email a few times and he was very quick with his responses.  You can bring your own music (we brought a cd with the  first dance, father/daughter, mother/groom kinds of things-and then another cd of fun songs I wanted him to play throughout).  I thought he did a really great job with everything.

Cake Cutting Knives - I did not bring anything for the cake cutting.  They supplied the typical silver cutting/servings knives.  The cake wasn't that big a deal to me-so I thought what they had was perfectly fine-but if it's important to you-you can definitely bring them.

Hey ladies...not to be a downer, but has anyone heard about the recent explosion in a Playa del Carmen resort?

I know it's not in exactly the same area but I'm traveling down there on Friday and although I would never dream of cancelling plans, it's still a freaky story... :(

It's all over the news. Sooo sad. A groom who got married there days before died and a 9 year old boy among other canadians.

I don't quite get the explanation though. Natural gasses from a swamp??? If that is the case then I am nervous because now jade is surrounded by mangroves and swamps!!

I think it is a freak accident and could happen anywhere. I hope it doesn't frighten our guests.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
