You're welcome! I hear ya on the date. We decided to get married here before hand and not deal will the legal requirements down there. We are going to arrive on a Monday and marry on Wend.

Something I found helpful was to leave on a Monday instead of Saturday. Taht way you won't wait as long to get married since they don't count Sat/Sun and it was about $40 cheaper per couple.

We are getting married before hand as well.

I'm guessing our guests from the US will arrive on a weekday but our guests from Sweden will stay at least a week and prices are a lot lower if they travel Saturday - Saturday. The flight prices go up with $2-300 on that Sunday and since the flight is about 13-15 hours they want to stay at least a week and I want to be there when they arrive. I haven't been home in a long time so I want to spend as much time with them as possible.

I did some sample floral arrangements with fake flowers and vases bought from a craft store to give an idea of what I wanted.  I sent pictures to Pilar and the florist was able to make a replica that was very similar to my design, and looks like they will be half the price of some of the premium arrangements!  Just an idea....

Also, my wedding is on Sunday, November 7th, 2010.  So I'm not sure about the Sunday policy unless they have changed it recently.

It's not like not all of the guests can drink if the bar is open during cocktail hour (even if you don't pay for the extras), right? I was under the impression that its just an open bar :)

Sorry for the delayed response...here's all the things I got charged extra for the reception:

Dinner for guests over the 25 included: about $67 per person

Extra champagne for over 25: about $5 pp

Extra wedding cake for over 25: about $6.25 pp

Hor douvres for cocktail hour over 25: about $19 pp

Extra centerpieces: divine cost $95 each

DJ: $390 each extra hour

Even though my reception is 4 hours, there was nothing on my quote that charged extra for cocktails.  There was a line item for it, but Pilar had it marked as $0.

I'm also getting just a single flower for each of my bridesmaids and extra photography.  All the prices include tax and a service charge.  Since the prices are a little crazy I think we're going to skip the champagne toast and the extra cake (bc theres dessert included in the divine package) and then just take the hor douvres (sorry if my spelling is wrong) that are included in the package and not pay extra for over the 25 people.  Also, I have been debating over what to do about the centerpieces because they seem really expensive to me.  So I may just take the 2 or 3 that are included and bring down tealight candles and flower petals for the other tables.

Hope this helps!

Since it's standard prices, I'm happy to actually send you the quote she gave me, if you want.

Hi Sking24

I also have an issue with the cost of the centerpieces. The book actually says that floral centerpiece arrangments per table are included but Sandra had told me that was a misprint and that only one is included for the head table. Can you tell me if Pillar told you that three are included in the divine package cause if so i am getting different information. I was also told that there is no cost for the champagne toast if you don't want the bottle popped in front of you and are ok with just having them bring a tray of champagne to the guests so that is an option for you to cut costs. I also didn't take the extra cake either or the hors d'oeuvres over and above the 25 offered as half of the people will probably be taking pictures and desert is offered with dinner. The receptions are max 4 hours and then they start charging if you want it longer than that about 15$ per person. Apparently there are some items there for free that you can use for your centerpieces so i would ask that question. I am going to be bringing my own to avoid that extra charge. I booked Ivan Luckie as my photographer for the wedding and the TTD and just got extra videography time instead. i wanted to bring in my own firedancers cause they want like 1000$ and they told me they would charge me 45$ per dancer for them to come on the resort for a 15minute show. Ridiculous!!!

SKing,

If you can send me your quote that would be great (just so I have an idea of what mine might look like).  You can PM me if that's easiest!  Thanks so much!!

Thank goodness we have this forum so we can all discuss this stuff.  Pilar probably hates it :)

We're also bringing our own officiant, but when i asked if we could trade that for something Pilar said no tradeoffs on anything.  I am going to have to get my negotiating shoes on! It would be nice to have the champagne toast and not pay extra for it.  I've actually been trying not to bug her too much with my wedding still being about 36 weeks away, so I've just been writing down the things i want/think of and then emailing her once every other week.  I just dont want to take away focus from brides getting married now/soon.  Am I being too nice, how often do you girls talk to Pilar?

Regarding the centerpieces, i dont think she ever said how many were included. The packages says it as "pieces" not center"piece" so I guess I assumed that it would include enough for the 25 people included in the package.  I'll definitely have to ask her.

Hi Erin

What is your email? It is easier to send it that way for me. My first quote was like $11000 and I now have it down to about $5600 for 50people. I am taking all the flowers in the package but I am using the two corsages for my grandmother and the mother of the groom so I need to buy two additional boutonnieres for the dads which are in the quote at $20 a piece and two bridesmaid bouquets which they want to charge 65$ a piece so I think i am going to have those flowers made real touch or make my own. I am also bringing my own chair bows, additional fabric for the pergola, my centerpieces, frames and a few decorations. My quote is very bare. We are also using our ipod for music at the ceremony and the cocktail hour as well as for dinner music and only using the DJ for the speech/dancing part of the night! Our reception is in the Bamboo room and for now ends at 11pm. If you are having an outdoor reception I was told that they have to end at 11pm no matter what. About a month ago I was emailing quite a bit, in the last month nothing and they in the last week twice. I have been put in contact with the videographer and the minister also. My wedding is not until April 26th but I would rather get all the details dealt with now and then not have to deal with anything until about a month before the wedding when i send in the instruction form and final count numbers. It was just in the beginning that i was anxious for replies to get the date booked and now i don't mind that it takes about 3-4days to get a response cause like you said they also have to deal with brides in house.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
