MUSIC:Ipods vs Dj

Recommended Posts

Ipod vs hiring a DJ. I have heard mixed reviews about using the resorts dj services because of the culture and music differences. Dj mannia plays great music but I feel is expensive and I dont need all that extra equipment. Please if you know of any other dj services or better ideas fill me in.

We originally were going to go with just the IPOD as we felt the DJ was a little expensive and we could do it on our own.
One of the best decisions I made however was deciding to hire DJ Mannia.
The music really makes the party and I am so glad we did not have to worry about 1)adding songs to the IPOD before we left and 2)Being responsible for the music during the wedding. You just want to have fun and not worry about changing the song and what is going to come on next. DJ Mannia was really great and at $220 an hour I think pretty reasonable as well.
I would recommend him for sure!

Hi Girls!

We first consider having the iPod for our wedding, but after working on our budget and talking about it, my FI and I decided that we really wanted a dj to make sure everyone dances all night and now having to worry at all regarding the music. I think an ipod could had work too, but it depends on you and your wedding guests.

My original plan at my wedding was to go with the IPOD but at the last minute I decided I didn't want to have to stress about that and hired a DJ and man am I glad that I did! I didn't have an MC and he kind of took that position and was awesome! He played great music and I brought a couple cd's with must play songs for him. I definitely recommend the DJ.

On our side we went with neither DJ nor Ipod ! We used a software called virtualdj. VIRTUAL DJ SOFTWARE - MP3 Mixing Software It is awesome. You just have to select the musics, put them in the order you want them to play (or not if you're fine with random) and the software will do all the transitions, fading etc. We did not want to end up with musics people would dislike and wanted a mix of everything. And FI was so happy to take care of the music - it made him feel integral part of the planning wink.gif . The party ended up awesome. Dance floor was always full. even my mom danced all the time ! We ended up dancing until 4am. Yeah - another coold thing about NOT hiring a DJ : you're not stuck with nothing once he or she leaves the party !

Great Idea for a thread!

I've only got around 20 guests so planning to use IPOD. Not sure how this will come off as really dont have budget for DJ nor do I really have enough people to make this worthwhile- I dont think.

How many guests did you all have too for DJ and/or Ipod ?

I emailed DJ Mannia based upon sooo many great reviews on the forum. His response was to contact Noelia (the PPR WC). Are they the DJ the resort recommends/hire?? I'm confused!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
