What day to hold the wedding on?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

We are planning our wedding in the Riviera Maya for the last week of March 2011.

Here's our dilemma:

We don't know which day to hold our wedding on. We know we have to be there 3 working days before we can get married. Our guests will mostly be there for a whole week. If we get there on the Tuesday... and get married on the Saturday, we'd leave again on the following Monday or Tuesday. It seems fine, but doesn't leave us a whole lot of time with our guests if they only get there on the Friday. I'm assuming they wouldn't fly in the middle of the week since that would cause them to take more than a week off from work. Plus, we could stay for 10 days instead of 7 days, but we are thinking about switching resort and having a few days on our own as or 'honey moon'. What did you do? When did you get there and have the wedding? When did you guests get there? Did you have a whole week with them? Should we all get there on the Friday, have the wedding the following Thursday and all leave together that weekend? I'd rather have the wedding at the beginnning of the week and enjoy our time with our guests the following days.

Hi,

I'm getting married in the Riviera Maya next March as well. We and all our guests are flying down together on a Sunday and we're getting married on a Wednesday. We are all leaving together the following Sunday. Unfortunately I can't take any more time off work at that time so we can't stay longer (although we'd love to). Why don't you all go on a Sunday, then get married on a Wed., then have your guests leave on Sunday and you continue on with your honeymoon for a few more days.

Hi StephyD!

We're getting married on a Monday so people can arrive on Saturday and leave on Tuesday, thereby not missing a whole lot of work if they don't have to. We're arriving to the resort the Wednesday before (for the 3 business day requirement) and people are starting to arrive the next day. We tried to be as accommodating to everyone's schedules, but still leave us time to get away as well.

Best of luck!

Hi StephyD. We're getting married on a Friday. Most guests are taking off the entire week from work and getting in the weekend for a week long trip. Others are arriving Thursday and leaving Sunday or Saturday. A bit of advice: check to see if your hotel has a time share section. Our hotel does and some guests are using it but the catch is that they can only stay from Saturday- Saturday. So if we had our wedding on a Saturday they would have been screwed. We didn't even know about this before we picked our day but we're grateful it's working out for them, just stinks they have to leave the day after our wedding.

StephyD-

I'm doing a similar thing that Tracy is doing, but my resort is not requiring any specific stay time. I chose Friday so that guests could take a 4 day weekend and not miss much work. Some are even just flying in on Thursday after work and flying out on Sunday. Whatever you chose to do, just keep in mind if you are going to have a welcome dinner let your guests know ahead of time so they can plan. I have a travel agent who has our agenda so that when guests call she makes the aware of the dinner and wedding times. I also have it on my wedding website.

Good luck with planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
