Milk in the Dominican

Recommended Posts

This might sound like a weird question but does anyone know if the milk is the same? I've had a few people tell me its different. I have two children who are 3 and 1. They drink alot of milk! I'm a little worried if its different.

Is there anyone who has travelled with babies or toddlers and noticed a difference? Thank you

It does taste a little different, but it's not like goat's milk! It's pasteurized, so it's safe to drink, but yes, it has a slightly different flavour. If your kids are older and like chocolate milk, may-be you could bring some mix with you to cover-up the slight difference? They would never notice it if you did that. Besides, how many kids would turn down the opportunity to drink chocolate milk every day for a whole week! If you have babies and toddlers, I guess it would depend on how finicky they are!

Hi,

The difference is that they are probably using UHT milk, which is long-life milk that is stored in boxes (big juice-box style) at room temperature - I know that is what they have in Haiti (right next door) so I assume it's the same for the DR. The taste is slightly stronger than fresh cow's milk but it is cow's milk. The chocolate idea is a great one.

You may even be able to find UHT milk at the supermarket here so you could try it out for flavour with the kids before going to see if it's going to be the cause of a major melt-down... :)

Good luck!

We have both fresh pasteurized milk in the regular tall 1 liter cartons in the refrigerated section of the dairy case, or the UHT (ultra high temperature) milk in the rectangular 1 liter cartons on the regular, non-refrigerated grocery shelves. Both are excellent quality, as are all the dairy products here. The varieties available are extensive. You can get lactose-free, skim, full-fat, 1%, soya milk, rice milk, flavored milks - like strawberry or chocolate, and others. Chances are you'll find one you or your kids will like, so no worries. Enjoy :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
