I couldnt find a good forum to put this under so I hope this works.

My problem is from the get-go I did NOT want to wear a veil because I did not want to in anyway, take away from the back of my dress. FI's mom was with me when I got my dress and found one that matched my dress and insisted on buying it. It was $150! So I almost feel like I have to wear it. Typically when I envision a bride I do see a veil. My mind has slowly changed and I believe I wanna wear a veil now. I just dont know if I have the right one! Ok, so they question is.. I'm going to do my hair to the side and I have long hair so it'll be down to about my boobs and curled (tried posting the picture but Photobucket is down for maintenance right now so I'll change this post as soon as its back up) and I have yet to see a picture of any bride with their hair to the side and a veil. Do you think this will look stupid? With the veil I have now I just cant imagine it looking good, but how do I buy a new one and face FI's mom the day of the wedding not wearing they veil she spent all that money on! Any advice will help!

hmmmm what about wearing your hair down with the veil for the ceremony, then putting it to the side when you take it off for the reception?

i'm thinking if she bought you the gift...she'd be hurt if you don't wear it

I like midnight's idea of wearing your hair down and then changing it when you go to the reception.

As for the issue of hurting the FMIL's feelings.... if you REALLY don't like the veil, maybe try to explain that with what you'd like to do with your hair, makeup, etc... the veil doesn't fit in your vision. However, ask her to go with you to find one that does?

        Just my two cents.

Wow that is tough. I think you need to figure out a way to make the veil work (even if just for the ceremony) since she made the nice gesture. Do you have a picture of the side hair you are wanting to do?

I don't think you should compromise what your vision is on your wedding day for someone else. I like Brandi's idea of explaining to her that what you want for your hairstyle doesn't work with that veil. Or maybe do a trial with a hairstylist...explain what you are looking for to them & you never know what they might be able to come up with!

I found a few pics of side ponytail hair with a veil to help you decide if that's a vision you like or not. Here they are!

I really like the side ponytail. I think it will look fine with a veil.

The veils look great in both of those pictures. I think you'll be fine, but to ease your mind you should have a hair trial (soon) so that you can see what it will look like and not worry about it anymore.

i agree that a veil will look fine with your hair to the side (plus your dress will show through the veil, right?) but that it would be wise to do a trial sooner than later. good luck!
