Did you fly your photographer to your destination?

Recommended Posts

There are several really good photographers in Cabo. I think if you find one you love locally it is usually easier and less expensive. I would only look to bring someone if I couldn't find someone locally, but others (as posted above) have had success and sometimes save money bringing in someone they love.

We are flying in our photographer to Riviera Maya. Well actually he is paying for the flight for himself and his other photographer and I'm paying for their stay.

I definitley think this is the way to go, I feel more comfortable knowing he lives in the same area as me. We are using - Chris Schmitt Photography, he's a vendor on BDW.

Wow i'm surprised that flying in a photographer would be the same price as some of the photog's in the Mayan. Seems like a no brainer to have the photographer for the week, instead of paying for only one day for a local??.... Interesting.

I don't know if I can add anything new here, but I'm also flying in my own photographer. My initial reason for this was that I was planning on getting married in the DR and there were just no local photographers there that I really liked. I was also noticing that a lot of resorts won't allow outside photographers (or at least not without some ridiculous fee!) so even if you find someone in the country that you like it could still be a problem. And photos are just too important to me to go with resort photographers. Especially after you see some of the AMAZING wedding pics past brides post on here! So, I ended up inquiring with a lot of local photographers in my area, and some I liked from other areas as well, and ended up finding Michael Wachniak. He hasn't snapped a single shot of us yet but I think this will be the best decision I have made regarding the wedding! I LOVE his work (like makes my heart flutter), lives close to me (so we can do an engagement shoot as well), and is in my budget even with travel costs (well, close enough, lol)!!!

Fast forward to me moving the wedding to Mexico, in particular the Mayan Riviera, a place where there are so many amazingly talented photographers, and I am still happy I am bringing my own photographer. Why? Because to get someone who (in my opinion) is as talented as my photog for the coverage I want would be double the price! Not kidding. And like I said, I also get an engagement shoot, no time limits, etc. And no hassle from the resort for having an outside photographer.

We are also flying in our photographer. There are certainly some amazing photogs in Cabo that I love. However, overall, it just made more sense to bring someone from home. Our photog will be taking pictures for not only the wedding and TTD but will take any photos we want during the week including several candides of our group throughout the week plus any formal events. Also because she is local we are getting her to do our engagement shoot and my BD. So by the time of the wedding, I will be very comfortable with her. Costwise, we couldn't get a better deal given everything we are getting. Also, if there are any issues (heaven forbid), I know it would be much easier to deal with someone local than someone in Mexico where I don't know the laws. Also my photog will have shot 2 other weddings in Cabo, including another at our resort, before our wedding so I know she will be familiar with photo sites. Overall, I am very happy with our decision.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
