Hello, Congratulations and welcome, EVERYONE here are so helpful and friendly, Im sure any questions you have or advice you need will be fully answered before you know it!!!!

certified or notorized copy of driver's license or passport, i think this means to take it to a solicitor/lawyer or maybe the foreign office to get them to certify that you are who you say you are!! I think they stamp the back to say they have verified its you...

Happy Planning x

I agree with Nicyx, they probably want you to take your license to the notary and the stamp will confirm that you are who you say you are. You can find a notary at any lawyers, real estate or insurance office. It's usually a nominal fee like $10.

Good luck!

Welcome Sheena! As the other ladies have advised, certified and/or notarized is pretty much the same thing. You need to bring these copies with you (and leave them with the magistrates) as proof you and your FI are who you really say you are. Of course, you can't leave the originals, so that's why they ask for certified/notarized copies. If you have a lawyer, he/she can notarize them for you. Alternatively, Google "notary public" and your area and you will get plenty of hits.

Hi Sheena:

Welcome! I'm an attorney and a notary public. (Not all attorneys are notaries, you need a notary).

You would present a copy of your license or passport to the notary along with the original and they would attest that you personally appeared before them and that the copy is a true and correct copy of the original. Make sure you appear in person.

As to a certified copy of passport or driver's license - that would suggest some type of government certification. I have not heard of a DMV or passport offices doing that. I did a quick search online and it appears that some other countries allow a judge to certify such documents. I'm not aware of this procedure, at least in my area.

I'd recommend you go the notary route, get an extra notarized copy for yourself, and fax or e-mail a copy of the notarized document to your resort to make sure its sufficient.

Hope that helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
