kate & devon bridal shower

Recommended Posts

So, where to begin... I am going to post pics of my bridal shower because I think my mom and sis did the best job ever and I want to be able to inspire future brides...

First of all let me start with the setting . My father passed away rather unexpectantly in September of 2005. I had been dating Devon since 8-9-2005, So they had not had a chance to meet yet mostly because I did not want to introduce a casual fling(or so I thought) to my family. Boy had I ever been wromg sad.gif

Turns out my dad had about 90% blockage in his heart and need quintuple by pass. He made it through the surgery ok. He ended up joking with the nurse that he wanted a beer to watch the Notre Dame game. But, something went terribly wrong and he ended up going into defib that night and eventually died 3 days and many numerous surgeries later. My mom would have to meet my future husband and his mother in the receiving line for my dad's funeral. F'd up right. But in some strange way I believe that my dad knew that Devon was the right one and he would take care of not only me but my mother and my sis.

Needless to say my fiance has turned out to be my guardian angel (and I believe my father knew it would be this way). Last February my mother was diagnosed with melanoma(she has never abused the sun in her life!!!). And, if that wasn't enough, she was diagnosed with breast cancer a week later. After 2 surgeries that dealt with her breast and her hand I think we are finally in the clear. FINGERS CROSSED EVRYONE!!!! It has been a long hard road especially since we had decided to do a destination wedding b4 all my mom's diagnosies. BTW, I haven't even mentioned all the sob stories about us trying to get engaged 3 times before we did. We have always had "ring" funds but they have been depleted by lost jobs and the real world. Looking back on things now I would never do things differently because now we have a beautiful home and ever since my dad passed I am a storng believer in everything happens for a reason.

Now, finally we have been engaged since 8-9-08 our 3rd anniversary(we are getting married on 6-12-10). A long engagement so everyone could afford to come, and everything is starting to fall together. I just had my shower and Bachelorette Party last weekend and everything was amazing and more than I could have imagined. My theme was Beach(obviously). Here are some pics pf everything my mom did herself. She did the centerpieces.

Oh, I almost fogot to tell you about the location. It was an old railroad station that they renovated into a banquethall. The best thing about that is that my dad absolutely loved railroads and used to collect memorabellia. The best thing is that the B & O was his favorite railroad and that is what this station used to be. Not only that but a train drove by every 45 minutes! It was like he was there with me!! And, the grand finally is my night in shinig armor!!!

Very touching story. I am so happy for you. Your family did a beautiful job with the decor and meaningful location.

Island Girl - I believe it is traditional for the FI to show up with flowers for his bride at the begining of the shower. This gives your shower guest, who haven't met him yet, a chance to meet him. His stay there is brief.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
