Jan 2011 Destination Not Decided

So I am new to this wedsite, just looking for more info on what destination to choose. So far I have pretty much decided it will prob take place around Riviera Maya, Mexico. Currently researching three different resorts: Barcelo Maya Palce, Playacar Palace Wyndham, And Royal Hideaway Playacar. Any thoughts? It will be very small 15 people at the most, and unfortuneatly most everyone coming can't afford to go so we are probably going to pay for the wedding parties entire stay. 5 days, 4 nights and flight on us. We have a $20,000 budget and the wedding party includes mob, fob, moh (having 2),fg (our daughter) and bm. So we will be paying for 8 people total. Is this do-able? Begining to stress about the budget after I wrote it all down! I want it to be a nice place and a nice wedding for us, but I didnt anticipate having to pay for everyone. The main reason we wanted to get married at a destination was so we didnt have to have a huge wedding and spend alot of money. Now it seems that kind of back fired! I have always wanted it to be away but is it going to be worth all this stress? Just begining to plan so I am trying to stay positive. HHEEELLLPPP ladies! Any suggestions to make this whole plan work would be great!

I paid for my bridal party (8 people) and my photographer to attend my wedding too, so I feel your pain. My wedding total ended up coming to 30k. There is a budget thread that is super helpful, but just as an idea, I spent 2 on the wedding package, 3 on my photographer, 2 on my private pool side reception, 12 on travel for 10 (husband and I and our 8 in the bridal party).

Those were the big ones and brought me to 19 thousand. Everything else was basically just "extra" such as paying for the spa days for all the ladies, buying two wedding dresses, invitations that I wanted a certain way, etc.

So i definitely think it can be done.

Good luck and best wishes! :)

Hi Meagan! I'm new too and trying to figure out where to have my wedding in Jan (hopefully the 15th) 2011 (if I can get that date). I'm already stressing over the budget too. I am headed to Mexico on the 14th of May to do site visits. Are you going to or have you done site visits yet?

Thanks for the advice! Thankfully my budget is a little flexible! I haven't done any site visits yet, I was actually planning for the same wedding day! I would love to do site visits but (we own our own company and both can only take limited time away) am probably just going to research enough online to pick what I think will be the best place and jump in with both feet! I figure these resorts have done weddings lots of times, I am comfortable having limited options, have a few specific details I want but thats it. Hoping I can leave most details to the experts. I am used to having just us on vacations, so paying for the wedding party makes me feel like I need to limit my spending. I was looking at Barcelo as a possibility but am reasearching which place to stay within the resort. Of coursse I would perfer the higher scale Palace, but is that neccessary for the whole wedding party? I don't want to be really far away from the wedding party or have them feel bad because they can't do certain things within the resorts.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
