Breakaway Bouquet Toss

Recommended Posts

Rather than do the traditional Bouquet Toss, I've decided to do the "Breakaway Bouquet Toss". A Breakaway bouquets are comprised of several mini bouquets or single rose/flower loosely tied together. Each of these mini bouquets also have a cake charm and maybe even the charmâ€s meaning attached to it. When the bride tosses her bouquet, it breaks apart and several people catch a mini bouquet!

My issue is that I would like to include a mini-poem to the single female guests to attach to each flower. So if you know of such a poem to give to your single friends, please share.

Thanks sooo much!

That's a great idea! Very nice, especially if you have many single ladies as guests. I only have a couple that are single and they are very worried that they will feel uncomfortable since everyone else is couples. I'm sure they will appreciate you paying special attention to them :)

There are several ways to do this. You can have your florist provide you with some single flowers/roses and cut and wrap the ribbon around them yourself or a variation would be to find a local florist yourself and do the same. I've been told that there's a Wal-Mart and a Costco in Cancun, so I planned to just grab a bouquet of flowers from one of those places and divvy them up then wrap with some ribbon and hopefully a cute little poem (if I can find something).

Here is a pic from Martha Stewart. She called them "Fortune Bouquets" and added various fortunes to the ribbon, such as "the next man you date will be your husnad" or "you will run into a long lost friend". I don't want to go that route and prefer to just add a poem or quote.

Martha Stewart Weddings Good Things article about "fortune bouquets". The article suggested a twist on the usual bouquet toss by combining it with a cake pull type tradition. You'd separate the bouquet into mini bouquets that would each have a fortune attached to them. Then, when you toss the bouquet, it breaks apart and a few girls get to catch the bouquet and get a fortune.

Ok, so after some research I have come up with the following quotes/poems. Please let me know which you like. Also, keep in mind that some of the single women will be my friends and some I would have just met. Also, if you have any to share that would be great!

#1- You never lose by loving. You always lose by holding back.

#2- Love is everything it's cracked up to be...it really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for.

#3- A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart.

#4- Some people come into our lives for a while, leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same.

#5- So take this rose, my special friend and hold it close to your heart. And always remember me, your friend, and we'll never be apart.

#6- If friends were flowers, you would be the perfect rose.

#7- The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow seperately without growing apart.

I did this and all the girls loved it! I called it a "fortune" bouquet and had all of the ladies participate instead of just the single females. I don't have the fortunes we used at work, but I will look for them when I get home. There are pics of the bouquet in my planning thread. It was flowers from the Dollar Tree, I printed the fortune on vellum and tied together with floral tape and ribbon. Also, I read the following to the guests before the toss:

We are doing the bouquet toss tradition a little different than most of you are probably used to. I mean, would you expect anything else? So in ancient times, it was believed that the Bride and Groom were especially lucky on their wedding day. Guests would sometimes tear at the Bride’s dress for a souvenir piece of good luck to take home. The Bride would toss her bouquet or garter to prevent guests from bothering her (and her dress!) during her reception and to pass along some of the new couple’s good fortune. We want to share our good fortune and would like everyone to join in the fun. So we need all of the ladies out here on the dance floor to see what they can catch.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
