Appropriate Wedding Attire?

Recommended Posts

I have been invited to a wedding by my boyfriend's host brother's fiancee. As a better explanation, I will only know about three people at this wedding. The wedding is on May 25th, and is semi-formal. I want to make a good impression, but I don't want to stand out either. I recently purchased a white, above the knee length dress that has blue flowers on it. Is it ok to where white to a wedding? Thanks!

do you have a picture of the dress to show us? it might help.

etiquette says it's not proper to wear white to a wedding, but it also says that about black. do you know if the bride is wearing a white dress or different shade (ivory, champagne, silver etc?). if it has a pattern on it, i don't see why it wouldn't be ok to wear it personally. but i am also not a bride who would freak out if someone showed up wearing white.

I would not encourage it. It is fairly acceptable to wear white when the majority of the dress is another colour and highlighted with white ie: blue dress with white flowers.

The bride may be fine with it but there also may be some impressionable family members who are not.

I wanted to wear a green and white dress to my brother's wedding but the bridesmaids ended up with green and white dresses (completely different) but she didn't want me to wear mine. Didn't help that we were already in Punta Cana and I had to improvise.

Play it safe and don't bring attention to something you are already questioning.

I agree too....you might want to stear clear of the white if its an all white dress.

Question though - whats the deal with black? i have never heard that you aren't suposed to wear black to a wedding and 9 times out of 10 i do!!! Guess i should be more careful!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
