Tensing Pen Brides?

Recommended Posts

I am back from my wonderful Honeymoon at the Tensing Pen. It was amazing. Most of the time it felt like the staff was there just for us. We can not wait to return. Here is a link to some pics of the resort.  Tensing Pen There are a couple of one of the wedding sites. The Tensing Pen is the definition of peaceful. I loved it.

Hi all! I am getting married at Tensing Pen in May  2011. We are so excited! Shanique has been really great and always quick to reply for those of you nervous about communication. It does get pricey, but I think weddings are just really expensive. The fees I know about so far are below

- set up $10 per person

- chair covers $7 per chair. You can also rent chairs from Tai Floral instead but they are even more expensive. $7.20 for wooden chairs and $14 for chivari chairs.

- dinner $40 to $50 per person depending on the menu you select

- if you use a vendor that isn't on their approved list the costing is $500 per vendor. this doesn't apply if the vendor is a relative or friend (i.e. you cousin is marrying you, your best friend is taking the pictures, etc).

I'm curious if anyone has used the live regaee band Shanique recommends called Irie Connections?

Also, how much is tensing pen quoting you for alcohol? I have been told $55 per person for 2 hours of limited bar during dinner and 3 hours of open bar after dinner. This seems really really expensive to me.

Are any of you having both a rehearsal dinner and wedding reception at Tensing Pen? I was thinking about doing the rehearsal dinner somewhere else, but wasn't sure where to go...

Thanks for all your help!

Hey!

I actually decided against Tensing Pen because the set up fees made it way too much per person. I settled on Rockhouse which is costing me $66 p/person ( if you include the cocktail hour item I've chosen). I also added a $2,000 bar, Once that is up the bar turns into a cash bar. Perhaps Shanique will permit you to do something like that? This way, it;s cheaper tha the $55 p/p which seems INSANE to me. As for a location for your rehersal dinner, you can chose Negril Escape. I went there in July for a wedding and it's literally next door to Tensing Pen. It's def not as nice as Tensing Pen or rockhouse, but the food there was amazing and it's a Jamaican owned resort and the staff there is really really nice. Since it's next door to Tensing Pen it's also on the cliffs, so you'll have that beauiful view. I know they'll give you a good price. I might do my rehearsal dinner there too.

Thanks for the info! I guess the killer at Tensing Pen is that the quoted bar prices are only for 2 hours so if you want to extend the party it is very expensive. I originally wanted to have our wedding at Rockhouse but I was told that if you have the party there it must be 20 people or less (ours is about 50 people) or you must rent the whole restaurant which is 8,000 minimum. Tensing Pen ended up being more affordable for our size group and the customization we want to have.

I went back and forth between rockhouse and tensing pen right up until the very end! lol...but rockhouse is cheaper. My wedding is for 80 guests. If you want to close out the restaurant you need to spend 8,000. Otherwise you have the entire pool area which is beautiful. If it rains, they move you into the restaurant area. I'm having mine in the pool area. $8,000 would have been insane!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
