Tensing Pen Brides?

Recommended Posts

YAY! I'm hoping to use Sungold or WPA Associates as well...they take GORGEOUS pics...well worth the money!

Are you doing your welcome/rehearsal dinner at Rockhouse too? I'm trying to figure out where to have ours. I'll be going down in July to scout things out. Let me know if you have any suggestions! So far I've seen other brides on all sorts of forums mention Rockhouse, Rick's Cafe, Xtabi and Norma's. I need a place that's lively enough but offers decent vegetarian options (not just salad!). I was thinking of transporting our guests down to the beach area just to switch up the views!

Wow do we think alike, lol!! We'll be taking our guests on a catamaran cruise that has open bar and serves pizza (we're trying to see if we can get jerk chicken too, but FI is fine with a good cheese pizza & drinks). Because we want to switch it up too, we'll be staying 3 nights at Rockhouse, then 3 nights at a resort on the beach. My hubby-to-be is also vegetarian (this is too funny), and I'll be there in July with a few friends to figure out exactly what I want to do at the resort, as well as scouting some other things out too. Alot of similarities here...

I agree that the "set up charge" and other similar fees are very annoying at Tensing. We looked at the Rockhouse as well but I didn't want to have our reception by the pool and to rent the restaurant was a min $8k. The rockhouse prices also seemed higher for most things. We are having our rehearsal dinner on the beach but the Push Cart restaurant at the Rockhouse might be another locaiton for you to consider. I believe they have set menus starting at $35/person not including drinks. I've been to both resorts and they are both lovely and very similar with Tensing being a little more intimate. I also liked that the room rates were less expensive for our guests at Tensing and include breakfast. Selassie, if you have flow over guests you might also want to consider Villa Sur Mer. I haven't been to the property but the villas look amazing and the owner was very responsive to emails.

Hi L&J, interesting you mention Villa Sur Mer because I'm considering changing locations to there. I've been having some "issues" with Tensing Pen...can't seem to get a straight answer on many things and it's making my anxieties rise and red flags wave. For similar prices, Villa Sur Mer has soo many amenities and looks equally beautiful. I'm going to check it out and decide soon!

I considered villa sur mer as well but there were a few reasons I decided against it. They don't have an on site wedding planner so you will need to pay an outside planner. They work with Ari from Jamaican Journeys and her fee is 10% of the wedding cost. That said, I heard great things about her and she was very quick to answer any questions I had. If you are really nervous about all the details working with her might be a really good option. Villa ser mer doesn't have an on site restaurant so keep in mind you will need to rent everything - tables, chairs, plates, glasses, etc. The planner can handle all of that but these are extra costs. The deal breaker was that they would only serve a buffet style for dinner and I absolutely wanted to have a sit down dinner.

Oh, I just looked at that place on line and it is very pretty! That might be another option! Also, here is the link to Pushcart Restaurant's menu with the prices http://www.rockhousehotel.com/assets...hcart_menu.pdf ...once again, you may want to look at LTU Pub too (for the rehearsal dinner), it's on the cliffs next to Rick's and the food is awesome! If you do decide to still do Tensing and need a place for your guest overflow, I would still suggest Rockhouse as the studios fit 2ppl and are $150 per night, and the standards can fit up to 4 ppl and are $125 per night (low season)- provided we don't end up having the same wedding date, lol, as we have the whole resort!

Haha, almost! I did email her a few months ago, but she let me know that Tensing doesn't even allow her on the property! So... that's not me, lol- but thanks for the compliment!

QueenDiva you are so on it I might just have to bow to the queen ;-)

If I go with Villa Sur Mer, I will have to change the date because Ari's booked! (Hmm...QueenDiva is that you?!)

This too funny!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
