Hi Ladies! I'm getting married Jan. 15th at the Gran Porto Real in Playa. Its so nice to read about other January brides! We booked our hotel and wedding date and then sent out save the dates pretty early....and then took a break from the planning. Its time to get back to it - exactly 6 months away!! This website is amazing, but its all a little overwhelming...I havent finished reading everyone's posts yet. We only have about 10 people booked at this point, but I'm pretty sure we will have between 30 and 40 guests - trying to gently remind people that they need to start planning.

When are you guys going to mail out your invitations? Have you thought about when you will ask people to rsvp by? I thought I read that I have to supply the guest list 45 days prior to the wedding??

I sent out my invites in May, with all the booking info included in them. I made the RSVP date for a month after I sent them out, which was the last day to book to get the early booking bonus. A lot of ppl are waiting till the fall to book, which is fine but they're just taking a chance with the price.

We sent out our STD a year in advance, and sent out our invites in June. Our early booking bonus ends August 31, and we have asked guests to RSVP by November 10, cause that's when the trip needs to be paid in full (they just have to put a deposit down right now). You have to usually give the resort 30-60 days notice of the guest numbers. but you'll have to check with the resort since it varies.

you don't have to worry too much...I just like to get things done early and I had ppl asking me for details about the wedding before I even sent out the invites, so it kind of pushed me to do things early! Lists are a good idea though...before you know it the summer will be gone and xmas will be here and after that....is our weddings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With regards to invitations I didnt even send any STD!!! We got engaged in October 2009 and booked the holiday and wedding to Mexico beginning of Nov 2009. Due to the distance travelling (from London) we knew not many people would come,if we had decided to get married in Italy or Greece - our other 2 shortlisted places, we probably would have done as so many more people would have come ie; friends as they could have come for just 3 or 4 days. So we did a group booking for 18 people and put down a deposit then spread the word Mexico was our choice - these 18 sp

aces were all filled up with our family within 2 days! Some friends may book in the next few months independently having now seen our wedding website. Which is a bonus to us.

But I have been getting all the addresses together today to send out our STD for our AHR for when we get back as this is going to be quite a big affair as so many people wont be coming to Mexico. I did them via Vistaprint I wanted to try and continue the wedding colours of turquoise and gold through to the AHR so its like a continuation of the wedding - sorry for the poor JPEG quality.

Have any of you guys picked out your bouquets/centerpieces with the resort yet?

I'm curious as to what types of flowers are in season in Mexico in January. Although, since the climate doesn't fluctuate much, perhaps it's the same types of flowers yearound.

The bouquet I have my heart set on is orchids and roses. Haven't really decided on the bouttenieres or BM bouquets yet. Not sure about centerpieces either.

I know that some types of orchids have to be specially ordered and shipped via Mexico City, but perhaps there are some orchids that are native to Mexico and more readily available?

I know that dahlias are native to Mexico, so I'm assuming that those have good availability. I don't mind paying extra to have certain flowers shipped, but I'd like to know what's locally grown.

If anyone can shed some light, please do :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
