Hi fellow January 2011 brides,

Congrats to everyone.  I just found this thread and wanted to check out what stage everyone else is at because I feel like I'm falling behind.  We are getting marriend at Valentin Imperial Maya on January 10, 2011.  We wanted January 9 because we met in Mexico on that day three years ago but they wanted to charge us extra because it was a sunday.  Anyways I now like the sound of the 10th better :)

I was looking for a way to honour my brother in our ceremony, who passed away 5 years ago and I really liked the idea of leaving a chair at the ceremony for him with a flower and a picture.  Thanks for the lovely suggestion and also thought the bouquet charms were beautiful.

We are keeping things small and simple and right now there are 12 of us making the trip, just both sets of parents and a couple of close friends.  I had to laugh with everyone's comments on the recent wedding dreams because I am going through the same thing right now and it's always the day of the wedding and I have a million things that need to be done.

We have decided (with some pressure from our family) that we need to have a reception back home to celebrate with the family and friends who aren't joining us.  This has become a much bigger stress for me than the actual wedding.  We are currently working on a venue/caterer and I was just wondering is anyone else planning on a party back home afterwards to celebrate???  It just feels now like I'm planning two weddings and the whole point of going away was to keep things affordable and simple.  Any thoughts, ideas???

Love that I'm not the only one having strange dreams. Two nights ago it was a horrible dream about the flight...and them not having enough seats. To the point that I had a lady sitting on my lap LOL! Hope these dreams finish for all of us soon!

We are actually hosting 2....yes 2 'at home receptions'. FI has a huge family and many of them can't make the trip. So we will be having a cocktail party in Ottawa for the family. And then another cocktail party in Toronto for our friends. It is alot of extra work, but since it's just cocktail parties, I think it's a little more casual and laid back. Haven't been doing to much work on them yet. We have the venue for Ottawa, still looking for one here. (add that to my list of things to do...)

Hey Jenlevergood! Welcome to the forum...and how cool to have your wedding date so close to the day you guys met! Verrry romantic :)

We're having an at-home reception, too, but I haven't even STARTED planning it yet. I just want to get through the Mexico wedding, and worry about the other when I get home. But then again, our at-home reception is going to be very casual. Probably in someone's yard, barbeque food, kegs of yummy beer, and bottles of wine. I more just want it to be a party/celebration than a fancy shindig. I'm guessing there will be probably at least 150 people there, which sort of makes my head explode, but we'll figure it out.

Any chance you could make yours a more casual event to take away some of the stress? Just an idea :) Best of luck toy ou!

Thanks ladies, I would love to try to keep things as casual as possible.  We were looking at having two receptions, one here in Ottawa for our friends and his family and one back home in Windsor for my family, but now they have all agreed to make the trip here.

Murmel do you mind me asking where you are having your cocktail party in Ottawa?  I have looked at tonnes of venues but nothing seems to be what we are looking for and I love the cocktail party idea.

We are using the restaurant Allium. www.alliumrestaurant.com The venue is fairly small, so we are doing a stand up cocktail reception for about 50 people. I think it would seat 40-ish if you need a sit down spot. They do amazing food, specifically tapas! Very excited, plus the decor is very modern and clean...very much our style. I think our plan is a 2 hour cocktail party, with drinks and small food samples coming around on trays.

If you live in Ottawa you HAVE to try their tapas on Monday nights! It's awesome. :) Good luck.

  • 4 weeks later...

Is anyone else freaking out at how close our weddings are? FI said to me today "15 weeks today and we'll be getting married" and i could see the look of terror in his eyes!!! I feel like i've got so much still to do, but i guess that as long as we have our rings and something to wear, the rest will just fall into place... right?

(note to self, must buy rings!)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
