Canadian Brides getting married in Mexico!

Hello,

I was just curious to see where Canadian brides were booking their destination weddings. I'm having a bit of an issue with the resort I've already selected and put a deposit on. The destination wedding specialist I have been working with assured me it was within a certain price range and after telling some of my guests they were finding very expensive prices. I looked up every site imaginable and the cost was way more than she had told us. SO.....I might have to start from scratch again. :-( I don't expect my guests to pay over $2000 to come to my wedding.

Just curious to see where other brides are going from Canada and if the prices are reasonable for your guests. I'm findin the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum is very reasonably priced and it looks really nice.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Who said a destination wedding was without stress?? haha

We've got our wedding booked at Dreams Puerto Aventuras just south of Playa del Carmen. Initially I'd thought it was out of my price range, but after looking at the prices on westjet vacations (especially with seat sales!) we worked it out that we could get most people booked for around $1500pp. Some of our other guests booked through Air Canada or expedia and they paid a bit more overall but no one has gone above $1700 for sure. The prices were up and down a few times but our guests booked starting about eight months ahead up to about two months ahead.

I definitely recommend checking through WestJet Vacations (or find out about group rates at a specific resort then book flights on west jet) to see if they have any of the resorts you like in their packages. Oh yah and we had guests flying from Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver - just to mix it up a little bit :)

I was with my TA when he phoned one of the travel carriers to get pricing and our pricing came over $2000 as well. However we were told this is because pricing is just coming out and the prices will drop after the summer. My TA has advised me to pick my resort (still trying to decide) based on this years prices and he will keep checking every couple of months for group rates. Once we have a price we are comfortable with (I'm hoping for $1500) then we will lock in pricing and notify our guests and they can make their deposits.

I know it's tough to go in blind but if you aren't getting married until April 2011 you shouldn't have to lock in your pricing now. We are getting married in March 2011 and I'm trusing that my TA is giving me good advise.

We got married at Dreams Huatulco and had guests coming from Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and Regina and the cheapest price was $2200 for our Toronto guests.. the rest were up to around $2500. Then again we went at Christmas so it was more expensive b/c of the time of year. What I did find was that, regardless of the price, if people want to be there they WILL be there. We didnt have anyone not come b/c of price and we had over 60 people join us. Good luck!

We chose Dreams Tulum without knowing prices.....I kind of went off the pricing from this year. Just know that the quotes you're going to get initially are going to be high regardless of where you look....it's just b/c the pricing isn't officially out yet, and over time will drop. I say pick a resort you want, initially we focused too much on the price for our guests....and the people that really want to be there will be there regardless of the price!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
