Sandy's RIU MoBay Review 3/20/10

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone...

Lets start out with saying we had a relatively small destination wedding. We flew out St. Pattys day and headed to RIU Mo Bay, which we booked back in September 09. Well when we get there we find out that 12 out of the 16 peoples who rooms were booked - got bumped!!! They overbooked the hotel and wanted to split us up at different resorts!!! NO WAY! So after about 3 hours in the lobby and dealing with their 'manager' we finally secured two rooms and we all had to bunk up together until Thursday until we could talk to the real manager in charge, Frank. Well after our horrific stressful first night, Frank fixed everything. We all got our rooms, we were moved to an oceanfront suite, and he did alot to make things right for us. Some members of the party were still unhappy and are disputing the hotel charges.

I was having second thoughts and about 45 days before the wedding, I moved the wedding offsite -- after this disaster I was glad I did. We worked with Dawn at Jamaica Elegant Weddings and had our wedding on the beach in front of The Twisted Kilt in Montego Bay (its an irish pub). Dawn was wonderful, she was easy to communicate with and worked within in our budget. The setting was beautiful. Everything was perfect!! The photographer got all our photos on a disk and Dawn delivered them the day before we left.

As for the resort, this was my first trip to an allinclusive so I dont have anything to compare it to. But the resort was beautiful, the beds were hard as a rock though! And getting into the restaurants was near impossible, you have to book as soon as you get there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
