Any Grand Velas' brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

My fiance and I would really love to have our wedding at the Grand Velas next year (fall 2011). We're actually going to visit the site in 2 weeks! Is there anyone out there that can offer us any advice on this resort? What are your thoughts on the food and reception options? Do they allow outside vendors? How good is their photographer? Who is your WC?

Thank you ladies!

Happy Planning :)

I'm getting married at Grand Velas April 23, 2010. I have been using Carmen and Yuri (from GV) for all the planning. We got a great room rate and so far, we have loved every minute of it. PM me if you need info - we've been down there twice already. Happy Planning!

Hi! I am getting married at the GV on 11/6/10.

Any tips or ideas?

Did you guys use a travel agent or have your guests book directly through the groups dept. and Carmen? I am having a hard time deciding. What agent did you use if you did book through an agency?

Hi everyone ! We are also looking at Velas, but i can't find any pictures of weddings there. We did site visits a few weeks ago and we only found out about Grand Velas after we came back from Mexico =( Any info you could provide would be really appreciated. The place looks stunning.

Katandgil - you mentionned great group rates. Would you mind sharing the approximate prices you were quoted ... in looking at the rates offered on the website we were afraid Velas would be overpriced for our guests ...

Hi Everyone!

So we booked our wedding at the GV! Our wedding date is 11/4/11.

JmbLucky-

We're asking our guests to book directly with the hotel so they can get our group rate. But I'm sure that we'll end up with a few people that would opt for a travel agency that could arrange for hotel and airfare together (in which case they will get whatever room rate they can get through the agency), but in our case I think we'll have anough people to book directly through the hotel to meet our quota (or group block). Even if we don't, we can reduce the total number of rooms blocked without penalty up to 6 months in advance.

We're sending our SDT this July, which should give everyone plenty of time to make arrangements; and we're asking our guests to RSVP by June 1st next year. This way we can make the necessary changes for our room block and have an idea of the number of guests for our reception.

Pepp-

the group rates really depend on when you are planning on getting married (2010 vs. 2011). We found cheaper group rates for this year. But because we want to give our guests at least a year-notice, we decided to get married next year. it was about $30 more for 2011 than 2010.

Katandgil- I have a Grand Velas wedding planned for 4/9/11. Would you be able to tell me what kind of prices your guests paid for Master and Ambassador suite? How was the weather there this time of year?Has anyone been given any sort of comped room for their Wedding night?

Hi mexbride49,

I'm getting married in Nov, and I'm going to meet my wedding coordinator next week, as well as decide on a location for my cocktail reception.

Where are you guys having your cocktail and main reception? Are you hiring any outsdie vendors?

We hired an outside photographer and are considering in hiring an outside Djay as well.

Have you decided on your menu yet?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
