So I started the name change process....

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I went to the Social Security Office. Had NO idea what an "interesting" place that was! After sitting there for 50 minutes (should've brought a book!), my # was called. I only have my spanish marriage license, so I wasn't sure if this would work. It also said on the form that you needed a license which had your old and new name- nobody in Mexico put my new name anywhere- I guess they wouldn't know if you were changing your name or not. Anyway, the guy asked me some questions about my parents' info, struggled to figure out the spanish license, and finally accepted it! Told me I'd get my new card in the next week or so!

I'm going to the DMV today~ wish me luck that it goes as well, and that my pic is OK- I like my old one and don't want to change it!!!

Good luck Amy!!

I did this all last week too! It was so much fun! Went to social security office and I couldn't believe it but I was only there for 20 min. Then I went and got a new license, and I love my new picture! I'm so happy that those things are done. Oh I also sent in my passport stuff to update that with me new name. So now I'm just waiting for everything to come in the mail. It was so much easier than I had expected, just make sure you bring everything they ask for with you and you should have no problems!!

Tammy I don't think I heard your story, sorry that you had a horrible time!

Driver's License- Check! And, I like my new pic! Luckily I still have my tan! I really feel like my name is "official" now since it's on my license! Of course, I need to do the bank, and other personal accounts and stuff, but at least the main stuff is done!!!

Hey~ does anyone know if there's any reason I'd need to file our license with our county courthouse?

not sure if this was ever posted anywhere, but if your passport is less than a year old when you get married, you can get a new one w/ your married name for FREE!!!

i just had to renew mine and was debating whether to wait until after b/c the wedding is in feb. and it would expire in march, but once i found that out i decided not to take any chances.

now the s.s. thing and the license pic. are things i'm NOT looking forward to.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
