The Importance of a Site Visit - RPRM

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

My fiance and I have an opportunity to go to the Riviera Maya for work in 2 weeks! And we're definitely taking advantage and going to visit 4 resorts that we like: the Grand Velas, Ceiba del Mar, Azul Beach and the Dreams Riviera Cancun. It's difficult to make a decision between so many resorts without actually seeing it and tasting the food, so we're going to try to squeeze our site visits in 2 days! I'd be happy to report back on any questions you may have on these resorts. We depart April 15th and return on the 18th. Wish me luck!

Wowzers, I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. Thank you for posting an honest review of your experiences. I hope this helps other brides make good decisions since not all of us are as lucky as you to be able to make a site visit.

KATE M- Please re read my post because I say more than once that I am pretty sure my bad experience was due to the hotel being full to capacity, so I am being sensitive to the fact that many people are having their wedding here. I am aware that food poisioning can happen anywhere, but I experienced it at this hotel, which is why I wrote about it. I also stated that I did have a few good meals here and that the grounds are gorgeous. I am in no way putting down the people who are not able to do site visits, but in my case there were certain things I was looking for in my wedding and I knew from the beginning that I would have to visit the hotel first no mater what. Again, this is just my opinion, just like everyone else has an opinion on this site, and to each his own. I am the type of person that doesn't mind reading negative reviews about places because it helps me make an informed decision.

Hello ladies, as indipendent wedding planner I highly reccomend a pre visit here in the Riviera Maya to have an idea of what is real and what not!!

I am so glad when all my brides to be come before the wedding, for me it is much easier organize the job and I can show them all the wedding locations I can offer them and they can realize the difference beetwen prices and locations, also they can realize who is professional and who is not....

So ...come before!!!! If you can of course!!!

it has nothing to do with "bad" reviews, it has everything to do with choosing your words wisely and taking into consideration that there are brides, like myself, on this site that will read what you wrote and go into a complete panic because they and all their guests are currently book at this hotel and getting married there in less than 2 months.

I really don't think my words were that bad and I did say that the bad service was due to the fact that it was spring break and maxed to capacity. I understand that it might make some brides nervous who are booked there, but I'm sure they all did their research before and read not so favorable reviews and made their decision anyway. There are many favorable reviews about RPRM, but my post was more for the brides who are on the fence about doing a site visit. I wasn't going to even write waht hotel I stayed at because I wanted the main focus of my post to be about how important a site visit was to me, but I figured everyone would ask what resort it was. I do alot of research when I go on vacation, and I take negatives reviews with a grain of salt, which i think everyone should do. Again, I am one person with one negative review about my stay, not the wedding experience, so I apologize if I alarmed anyone.

I think it is good that you wrote your review. I think that is the point, that brides post their experiences good or bad so that other brides can be aware of your experience and take it into consideration when planning. I know that reviews on this site helped me a lot in ultimately choosing my location. If a bride had a bad experience at my resort, I would definitely want to know about it so that I could try to avoid or come up with solutions for whatever the problem was before I got there. Realistically every resort will have someone who has a bad experience and someone who had a good experience. The more info we can share with other brides on this site, the better.

Hi J&E,

I am curious how you narrowed it down to thsoe 4 resorts. I in the process of trying to select a hotel and it is so hard! We like the idea of a small hotel that we can take over (we expect about 100 guests) so we are looking into Ceiba Del Mar--- but I am wondering if maybe we should also consider the bigger resorts as well?

Any advice would be helpful! I would love to hear your review once you get back from your site visit! you are so lucky that you will be there for 2 weeks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
